League One
Oxford United - Conor McAleny started and scored a hattrick in the 5-1 home win over Bury

OS Match Report
"The U’s created two good chances in the first 15 minutes; McAleny had the first when Johnson and Rothwell played a hat-trick of one-twos to allow the excellent Rothwell to cut the ball back. McAleny’s effort was well struck but wide of the mark."
"On 40 minutes it was three with another eye-catching goal. An outrageous flick from John Lundstram, a touch from Edwards, a shuffle from Rob Hall and the winger was through. His cut-back could have gone to any of three men inside the box but it was McAleny who received it to force the ball home from eight yards for his sixth goal since joining on loan from Everton.
Bury decided the only way to stop Johnson was to try and end his evening, Ryan Lowe guilty of a very late challenge from behind before the break, but three minutes into the second half they were um, buried, as Lundstram picked out fellow scouser McAleny just inside the area. Bury backed off and by the time they realised their mistake the ball was already past Murphy and into the bottom left corner to make it 4-0."
"However, to cap a fine evening's work McAleny was at the far post to slide home Martinez's cross and make it 5-1 while completing his second hat trick of the season in injury time."

Twitter stuff
4' Johnson and Rothwell exchange passes down the left before Rothwell gets the ball back for McAleny who screws his shot wide. 0-0
39' Bury win a corner as Johnson fails to shepherd the ball out ahead of Leon Barnett. McAleny clears. 2-0
61' Hall finds McAleny in the area, picks up the return and shoots but Murphy manages to get down to it. 4-1
67' From a corner the ball comes out to McAleny who blasts it in from range to win another corner. 4-1
72' Good build-up play by United and the ball comes to McAleny 25 yards out but his shot is easy for Murphy. 4-1
82' McAleny with a fantastic low cross that comes to Sercombe. His first shot is blocked and his 2nd swings just wide. 4-1
Man of the Match, chosen by match sponsors @AsterGroupUK is Conor McAleny. 4-1
90' U's carve Bury open again. McAleny plays in Hall who scoops over from close range with the goal gaping. 4-1
(Twitter feed just writes the very informative GOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL MCALENY when he scores)

Surprisingly few fan comments about him considering the three goals.

(As well as James Vaughan - now 28!! - another ex-EFC Hallam Hope also came on a sub for Bury.)

How good is Ledson looking for you guys + do you think he could work his way back into the premier league or has found his level?

Ledson has been excellent, especially when you consider he is only 19 too. He's on the shortlist for the young EFL player of the season and is a deserved nominee. Hopefully more young players will follow his and Lundstram's lead and move to get game time.

I certainly think Ledson will make it back to the prem.

Thanks for the feedback. Delighted for the lad. Best of luck for the rest of the season.

I still cant understand why we let him go...any rumours your end why he was made available?

Truth be told we have a glut of midfielders in the youth ranks. There is no way they can all play for Everton even if they prove good enough. Sad but true. Walsh can't even get a game with the senior side, and quite frankly he may be the best technical footballer of the bunch.
