Young EFC Players Out On Loan 17-18

Given that the role of tigerish midfield player is one of the few areas we don't appear to have a shortage in, maybe Royle (or whoever) is seeing how Walsh adapts to adversity. It's one of the possible learning experiences of going out on loan from a place where you have been the 'promising' Academy product for a number of years. (See Joe Williams, Antonee Robinson and, to a certain extent, Kieran Dowell.)

Gallagher has played in their last two games including starting on Saturday

Yes he's got in because Vassell was injured against Villa. Boga from Chelsea has made a couple of sub appearances too but they are both big physical players. I've seen a fair bit of Walsh, including a game at Yeovil, and he's certainly not afraid of a battle but it seems their manager prefers mediocre grafters like David Davis and Kieftenbeld than an unproven youngster like Walsh. Seems ridiculous to us, which is why the rumour seems to have started that he was injured - he'll be back here in Jan unless he starts playing.

For someone who has never seen him play, could anybody tell me exactly what Antonee Robinson is good at? I ask only because the comments on here from Bolton fans all seem to say he's alright except he's useless on the ball and can't defend. I'm therefore a little unclear as to what it is that makes him alright?

I wouldn't bring in any of them. With our start I think top 7 may be out of it so I would use the rest of the season to figure out what we actually have with our new players. We have spent the past few seasons struggling to find the right clubs to send our loanees to. When we find these players actually flourishing then we should let them stay and develop like we planned in the beginning of the loan.

..I was thinking more that we are in a relegation fight.

...fine athlete, good size and shape to him. I actually think he looks classy but he’s now playing open age football and we will know more about his prospects now. He’s had a bad time with injury so in a way he has been thrown in at the deep end.

He showed up well in preason two years ago , think he even started one first team friendly, then the injury set him back. I like Antonee Robinson, then again I like all our young players when I read about the antics of our so called senior players , but ..... although he’s althletic , goes forward well, he hasnt convinced me yet that he’s going to make it as a PL full back with us. I’m sure he’ll continue to improve but I’m applying a high standard here e.g. is he better than Galloway or Garbutt at the same age? Or even Connolly who’s a similar age.? I’d say no and all three of them will find it tough to get into our future PL squads.

Well it’s an odd if Walsh is not injured, as I said in an earlier post he’s the type of player who relishes a relegation scrap as he proved on his loan at Yeovil . Gallagher has played in their last two games including starting on Saturday, so I don’t know what to make of it.
BigMick is right. I remember seeing a recent article in the lical Birmingha.m paper. At the time Gallaghers agent was kicking off for not being played so it must have been before those games.. Their manager said that the likes of Gallagher/Walsh had to be patient and await their opportunity.

Well brum are utter gash so his time can't be far or the manager is just clueless

Hopefully the results will force his hand and Walshie will get his chance. Asking a lot for a 20 yo to turn around their season though. I'm sure he'll approach it with the same attitude the young lads in our first team are. Thats all you can ask I suppose.
I agree it is asking a lot of Walsh to turn their season around, but of all our young midfielders, Davies, Dowell, Williams, Beni, Walsh is the one I’d pick to have in a team fighting relegation. I’m not saying he’s the best or most talented just that he relishes a scrap , maybe it’s his size that drives him to be so combatitive to make up for being small, he certainly seems to pick up his fair share of Yellows. Must admit though on his current form Williams would score highly on the combatitive scale too.
To a certain extent Cotterill is doing what all new managers do , going for players he knows the style of and likes and ignoring some from the previous regime, Koeman did it , Unsy too , but it’s ultimately short sighted if you don’t take the trouble to find out about the character and style of all the players at your disposal.

I agree mate. He showed those qualities at Yoevil who were scrapping when he first went there.

You'd think the manager sees him in training though.
