What is it?

There's some comment around Koeman not knowing his best 11, and it's probably a fair critique. He'd probably even admit that.

What I think is Everton's biggest problems;
  • Lack of pace.
  • Gana/Schneiderlin. I'm not convinced on two defensive midfielders - big fan of Schneiderlin and Gana, so much so I think only one is needed to disrupt play. The game has moved on a fair bit but Vieira, Keane, Essien etc didn't need someone sat beside them in that role. They took accountability for that part of the pitch and did it well. I think having both of them limits us going forward and creates a vacuum.
  • Sigurdsson/Rooney - Similar to above. Go with either of them - give them a clear, defined role. As is, they're floating about, seemingly doing whatever they want - stepping on eachothers toes. I'd tell one of them to sit behind the striker - make that position theirs.
  • Consistency. Koeman is changing it too much. I mentioned 7 summer signings starting vs Spurs and looking like strangers - he needs to find an 11, an stick with it for a run of games. No player can play an instinctive second guess ball which makes the lack of pace even more obvious.

All that considered, my Everton 11 would be what this lad tweeted;

It has balance/pace/energy - what would be your Everton 11?

-----------Pickford
Holgate-Keane-Jags-Baines
-----------Gana-------------
Davies---Klaassen-----Gylfi
-------Rooney----Sandro----

However, it still lacks one vital ingredient, Pace!

Here's praying Coleman and Bolasie come back all guns blazing.

GK Pickford

RB Holgate/Kenny
CB Keane
CB Jagielka/Williams
LB Baines

RM Lennon
CM Gueye/Schniederlin
CM Davies/Klaassen
LM Mirallas

ST Rooney/Sigurdsson

ST Calvert-Lewin

Martina to be a useful sub if losing.

Phil Mcnulty: We are aspirering for top four, but it is not going to happen over night. I think Koeman made that clear.
We had to change the whole team, for 130mill, aswell.

Get realistic.

I posted this earlier in my own thread, but I'd go with this vs. Sunderland and see how we get on:

Pickford
Holgate - Keane - Jags - Baines
Davies - Gana
Lennon - Rooney - Lookman
DCL

We need to start utilising width going forward, especially against teams that will sit back against us at home, which is why I reckon we should start Lennon and Lookman on each side. Rooney as the 'number 10' for the linkup and Davies to get himself involved in attacks. If we had Coleman & Bolasie fit down the right instead of Holgate & Lennon I think we'd look very decent. We then have the likes of Sigurdsson, Klaassen, Morgan, Sandro and Vlasic to swap in so there's a few options there.

For home:

Pickford
Holgate Jags Keane Baines
Schneiderlin/Gana
Mirallas Sigurdsson Lookman/Bolasie
Rooney DCL/Sandro
Away:
Pickford
Holgate Jags Keane Baines
Schneiderlin Gana
Mirallas Sigurdsson/Rooney Lookman/Bolasie
DCL/Sandro

With Bolasie in for Lookman that's a good team, would have Vlasic ahead of Lookman too. Also would give Holgate a run at CB when Seamus is back.
Just can't get my head around why he was so desperate for Siggy after signing Klassen and Rooney in the same window when there are glaring weaknesses elsewhere. But he needs to find a way of getting the personnel we have winning and that is going to mean some unhappy central midfielders as they can't all play like he seems to be trying and failing with at the minute.

Pickford
Holgate Williams Keane Baines
Schneiderlin
Davies Gana Sigurdsson
Rooney DCL

I think we play best with Gana, Schneids and Davies all in the team, and also with DCL. I think Davies, Schneids and Gana are good on the ball and are good at transferring us from defence to attack. I think DCL is a good out ball option to relieve the defence when they need to go long, as he's excellent at winning duels against opposition defenders.

Think you could rotate Williams with Jagielka, and Davies / Sigurdsson with Mirallas / Lookman / Bolasie. Likewise Coleman in for Holgate.

I'm not sure about Baines any more but what else do we have.
