Your menú for tonight?

By strange coincidence, I made short rib stew for supper tonight. Got my timing a little wrong though and I think the oven was a touch too warm. Mrs Tree very kindly ate it anyway.

Nice, slightly tough or did you get away with it?

Pound for pound it could be the best cut of meat out there.

The meat itself was good; it was in for long enough. The problem was the rest of the stew came out pretty dry. I think I had the temperature up too high for the time it spent in the oven, so next time I'll go 20 degrees lower and leave it in for longer (and check it / top up with stock more regularly).

Short rib done well (IE by Mrs Tree, rather than myself) is heavenly.

A deserved round of applause. I have a hob and slow cooker, no sink or oven and not much of a work surface. I'm supposed to be reforming the kitchen but money was spent on other parts of the house and now we are losing some of our land to a government built road. So We've just stopped everything.

You very much deserve many rounds of applause. Cooking without a sink, oven, or counter space is remarkable and even more your effort to continue feeding you and your family with home cook meals.

I hope the government is compensating you really well for taking over your land. Where is it that you live?

not sure about compensation yet. initially though they would just take it. Some guys turned up with a map and asked to come in and take photos when i wasnt here and my wife said "no". Thats the first we heard, managed to get photos of the plans and my neighbour is making some calls (I am in valencia region of spain and my spanish is good but not fluent.) But that was the first we heard of it. Apparently starting in March, just hope they dont expect me to let them in and make them tea every morning. Especially as i have to boil water on the hob
