stop unrestricted entry to the uk by EU nationals, instead look at greater ties with like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, remove visa requirements from them and allow free movement, I think its wierd that they find it harder to get in to the uk than some of our european neighbours.

I think you're about 40 years too late with that one. It would have been interesting if, instead of joining the then EEC the UK had looked at forming something like a Commonwealth Economic Community or Free Trade Area.

Sort out the justice system by giving murderers proper jail terms, freeing the required space in jail by giving people who are in for white collar offences loads of community service & rapists & paedos the death sentence

At the minute it's an absolute ******* joke

it was commonwealth members that suffered in terms of trade when we joined the EEC. In N.Z. they said that their whole industry was a dairy farm for Britain, joining the eec plunged them into a recession that they reckon they have never recovered from. many other countries that provided all kinds of provisions would've also been unable to sell it to us due to excess stocks in the EEC.

I reckon we should tell the eu to jog on and trade with our commonwealth members instead, most would jump at the opportunity.

Quite true. But I'm not sure whether too many Commonwealth countries would be as keen as they might have been back then. A lot of them have had to develop other markets & would be justified in telling us to take a hike if we proposed the idea.

a lot of places that could also provide for themselves then found that they couldn't as they couldn't afford to keep the farms open, ask the people of zimbabwe if they want our lads to kick that despot out, then turn it into the breadbasket of africa again, they would benefit, we would benefit.

Well, you're moving off into a different area somewhat. The situation in Zimbabwe can hardly be tied to our membership of the EEC - far more to do with the current & previous regimes, although in quite different ways. It's hard to imagine any third party stepping in unless it's a South Africa led African coalition. Neither the Americans nor the Europeans would dare, sadly.

not tying it with the eec, more they would jump at the chance to get rid and join a commonwealth thing. i'm not talking colonial rule here, we could just bump him off when he comes for a garden party, if their army thought we were on our way, they'd soon turn on him.

Appreciate the sentiment coyney but personally think it would be an insult to all those who have fallen if we make it a half arsed job.

Bollocks.

That sentiment is correct in the sense that, if we're going to have a pointless war, we might aswell make sure that as few people die as possible by devoting as much money as we can to said pointless war. But when sending more of our kids in is tantamount to throwing them away all for the sake of not losing face, you can jog on. Ask a family member of a fallen soldier whether they'd rather more kids die so that their son didn't 'die in vain' (which makes no sense anyway), or whether they'd rather we made sure that it never happened to anyone elses family again. Expect the second option a thousand times out of a thousand.

One can argue that the war in Afghanistan has become pointless, not least as a result of the truly pointless, ill-judged & illegal war in Iraq, but there were valid reasons for the original military action taken subsequent to the attack on the World Trade Centre. Unfortunately, instead of consolidating what had been achieved & then getting out, which could have been done by now, the job was left half done whilst attention was turned towards Iraq & now it's almost back to square one. Quite reprehensible.
