2023/24 Nathan Patterson

Yeah, whatever.
The other Dave when he comes across a point he can't argue with:

He's had Iwobi and Townsend in front of him before and still been terrible.

The lad is just not PL class. That's what anyone looking critically at the evidence would conclude. It's ok sayong there's a player in there somewhere, but we cant afford passengers who may or may not come through. We need Coleman back at RB to get a more solid shape to our back four.

This Sunday is going to be another horror show with Patterson puffing and blowing trying to get back goals side of a marauding Havertz and Martinelli.
His cross for our equaliser at Sheffield United was a peach of a ball -though Dave ..... :D

And he has made a few crosses in previous games that have landed straight on a players foot yet they have screwed it up. Much better crosser than he is being given credit for when he gets the chance to. Certainly a better crosser than any of our previous right backs for 20 years.

That is cause, when Hibbo did it... It was called a lob.

Also certainly been a worse defender than any of previous right backs for 20 years.

He is young, he has time on his side and our defence has been awful. But it's no excuse for him being poor.

Wish our full backs could cross like our last couple of left backs before Benitez

When our last 20+ years of right backs have been Coleman who’s one weakness at peak was crossing, floaty cross Phil Neville and Tony Hibbert we’re not exactly setting a high bar here

Assuming Father Time hasn’t caught up with Seamus in the way it is creeping noticeably up on Young as he gets dribbled past every week then Coleman competes for the spot & will be a better option in some situations.

Doesn’t mean Patterson hasn’t been fine overall & has done enough to show it’s his spot to lose. He’s showing he belongs at this level despite others being in poor form, playing out of position or making critical mistakes around him.

He’s gaining experience, got the physical attributes & showing potential to improve. We will need another to compete once Seamus can’t. Nothing changes there.

Dave knows that really. Just the persona getting in the way of his normally more reasonable football sense.

Had several injuries which have hampered him and i think if he can get 10 straight games we'll see him evolve.
