2024/25 Dwight McNeil

McNeil balls in the box and through balls in a team that’s allowed to attack (see our right back scoring diving header on a counter attack in open play) and with a striker that likes through balls?

I bet he can’t wait to get back out there

…it’s his set-pieces we’ve missed, not sure we’ve scored from a corner in his absence.

A better all round player than most believe. Missed him.
I like that we are improving the team, but it looks like people are using it as a chance to dismiss McNeil because they don't favor him. I see too many "set pieces merchant" shouts which is not true in the slightest. Call him slow. One footed. Okay. But seriously? He is one of the few players that showed goalscoring ability under Dyche and they want to make that claim? I don't get it.

We have to actually see McNeil in this team before we can come to that conclusion. We have seen Myko in this team and he is about the same he was at his best so I'd agree with you. Dwight actually has some ability and a left foot even if he is lacking for pace. Myko is just not much of a footballer and not much of an athlete.

And also I do not see us selling either. I doubt anyone will buy Myko
I guarantee someone will buy Mykolenko... Going forward he isn't Baines not many are, but defensively he's above average. His performances against Salah down the years prove this. Can play centrally in a back three also. He is more than serviceable, I wouldn't be against buying an attacking left back to complement him during games. The Reds do it with both there full backs

I think he's the type of player Moyes will like, tbh. I think he'll fit back in just fine.

He plays with his head up. Looks for best option. I agree totally with you he gives us that X factor.

I feel he is in the Digne department where he would look significantly better with a partner or a pacy attacker to play off of. He will have more options now and he does have a great left foot. Charly does well at breaking teams down with his ability to run with the ball and hit the pass where McNeil and Garner can hit those through balls that would work really well for Beto and Charly to run onto. I like the potential setup. We can always improve our quality (99 percent of teams can) but he certainly isn't the slouch people make him out to be. And our set pieces should improve drastically which is also a plus.

Sure, if Pickford, Branthwaite and Gana didn’t exist.
Yeah, but they've now played under Moyes, and have improved along with the rest of the squad, whereas McNeil had played only under Dyche until his injury, yet was still the best performing Everton player in PL statistics. It's only fair to wait and see if he ups his game again with the new management.

So the less he plays the closer he becomes to prime Messi then.

If we ignore the one footedness, tardiness on the ball, lack of pace, inability to play the ball ahead of someone he can clearly see and focus only on the occasional blammo - he's the best player in the world, right next to Broja.
