To me, he's a bit of a symbol of Everton at the moment. He's obviously a player who plays only for himself, and gives a damn about the team. If we win, and he does not score goals, then he whines. He argues with his teammates about taking penalties, free kicks, etc. Has mostly a negative body language.

As a player, he is ok and has his moments. However, he lacks the football intelligence, awareness, and technique to be able to utilize space. For example. in the first half, he had a great opportunity to center a pass through to AG, so that he had been alone with the goalkeeper, but had the wrong body position and looked down on the ball.

Of course he will score many goals when he plays with Neymar, etc., and in part he scores goals for Everton, but he does not have the ability to make his teammates better. He also does not have the ability to lift his teammates when the team is having a hard time, instead he only reinforces the negative.
As much as I don't want to admit it, I actually agree with this.

He's a good, effective player but his ability to link up or play a decent pass is miserable. The amount of times he kills an attack with his inability to do the simplest of things in painful.

Having said that it wasn't his fault tonight. Completely isolated as expected.

We say this a lot as everton fans, regarding him and DCL. Make things happen, influence the game, they don't do it enough. Be the link instead of waiting for your tap in

This has frustrated me for years when it comes to our forward play. Big reason why it can look so disjointed because we always carry someone up top who is there to chase lost causes and get on the end of crosses.

Every team needs that approach at times but it's the only one we've got.

It's been some drop off since he hit 26 league goals in his first two seasons (13 and 13).

To go from that to 11 in one and half is alarming.

It seems worse than it is. He’s been roughly performing the same the whole time. He outperformed his xG a little bit the first two seasons and then underperformed a bit last season. He’s a ~10 goal per season player which isn’t bad. This season he’s only started 12 games given injuries hence the 4 goals.

A couple of pages ago someone was peddling this whole “we’ll get £80/100 million for him when he goes” fantasy. This is one of the problems with Everton. It’s not just the incompetent management, who’ve blown hundreds of millions on dud players over the past decade, it’s just not the players themselves, most of whom aren’t up to it and/or lack heart and mental toughness, it’s also the delusional fans.

Big clubs do not spend £80/100 million on forwards who are as unproductive in terms of goals and assists as Richarlison. The only way you could hope to get close to £80 million for him—let alone the insane sum of £100 million—is if you were to find somewhere in Europe a club even more badly run and prone to pour money down the drain than Everton.

Big clubs do not spend £80/100 million on players in mid-career whose *best position* isn’t even clear. And, if we’re being honest, the whole ‘best position’ argument is in this case as it nearly always is a proxy for the real issue: he’s neither fish nor fowl. He’s not quite good enough at playing with back to goal or productive enough in G/A to play as a striker, not quick or skilful enough to compare with elite wide forwards like Salah, Son, Mane etc and not good enough at dribbling/passing to play as a 10.

Jota went for £40/45 million. That was considered risky fir Liverpool/quite a hefty fee, considering his inconsistency at Wolves and it not being clear what his best position was. Now he is worth c. £70 million, because he has performed consistently since his move. He like Richarlison is a forward who can play from the left or through the middle. If you look at every comparative stat between him and Richarlison since his move he is clearly performing at a higher level than Richarlison. Yes, he’s in a better team. But even the notorious ‘eye test’ tells you that he is currently a better player. Now if Jota is only rated currently at c. £70 million, how can Richarlison be worth £80/100 million?

He’s missed nearly half this season, played the majority of that season and a half under 2 ultra negative managers. And has been forced at times to play like a 2nd full back , especially when the lazy arses. Like James, siggurdsson and Gomes were in the team.

Also the constant injuries around him, means he has different players all over the pitch to try and gel with, while playing in 4 different positions himself.

He’s far from perfect, but is a very talented player and will probably leave this sumner. Maybe that’s for the best, as like someone has already pointed out, he does play for himself a lot

Pepe went for 72. Grealish who ok isn’t a forward and a different type of player, but at villa he did play a lot off the left of a front 3. And would average 5/6 goals and assists most seasons.
Palace wanted 70 for Zaha who only once I think has over 10 league goals.

Saint maximum was great last night, but look at his numbers. He doesn’t score or Assist loads. Villa paid 40 for Beundia, I think he has 2 goals and maybe 1 assist.

Spurs paid 55/60 for Lo Celso

I think we will get between 60 and 70, he 24 and already has over 30 caps for Brazil.

Why are some fans wanting to hound Richy out of the club?
Saying he scored this in that season and has only scored this in this season, he has been playing this season under a manger who’s tactics were lump it up to him and tell him to get on with it, since frank has come in he has had a few chances and scored 1 he will get many more chances with this system and better players behind him, he gives everything every game so yes let’s hound out one of the few winners we have in the side.

I just find some aspects of his game concerning, as someone mentioned in this thread last night, he struggles with everything that isn't individual

Yes he can pop up with goals, he can track back tenaciously when he wants to, but unless he is in the box, whenever he gets the ball, more often than not he will make the wrong decision or won't see the right pass, he is detrimental to link up play a lot of the team.

He is a good player, but I don't know what he is, he's not a winger, he's not a striker, he doesn't create and link up, I just don't know what he actually is, been saying it for 3 years now
