I wonder if Siggy is sat in his room at the Titanic......gazing out over BMD.....dreaming.....

Another net spend disciple. Pay it no mind.

Money spent on players isn't what wins games but the players themselves. Sign 10 Sandro priced players and win or have a net spend buying Benteke and some other jarg in vogue players and lose. But hey at least we are top of the net spend table!

Or we could buy players who aren't world class but are younger and have potential to improve and gain in value.

Erm....we are doing that. Sandro, Klaassen, Pickford, Keane, Lookman and Onyekuru all say "Hi" :bye:

Chelsea/City have spend less on 22 year old players from Monaco's CL semi final team than we are bidding for 28 year olds from Swansea.

Both have CL football. And let's not forget all the investment that is being put into the U23s too. They're all about the future but we also need quality experienced players who will improve the team - and Sigurdsson fits that mould nicely.

We still banging on about "sell to buy"? Rom wanted out and was sold, Barkley wants out an will be sold. What's the issue? If players want out and refuse to commit then you have to sell them. What is so difficult to understand?
How do we get from where we are now to being a team where players don't "want out" as you put it? This is the crux of the matter for me. We can all agree that we got good money for Lukaku and that keeping him, and his incessant international break briefings, would have caused more harm (Barkley is a whole other issue though as I'm not at all convinced we will get good money for him). His stated reasons for wanting to leave is because he wanted CL and to win things. Well, we wan't that too but we are stuck in a troubling position that when we bring players along to the point where they are capable of these things they invariably want out. At some stage we have to break this cycle and part of that is not shrugging our shoulders and accepting our status as a second tier team. We may have to sell to buy, we may not, but what is certain is that if we continue to sell our best players year on year then we will never move beyond our current status and we will never win anything other than the odd cup following a kind draw and a flukey run. 22 years and counting.

...update on the West Derby cash machine. For the cause, I have camped out since 12.30 and not seen him. I have to admit to being in the close by pub bar drinking Guinness but I did my bit.

You might have had more joy having a few pints in the Titanic. Anyone on here staking out there? Anyone?

smashing our record purchase and lashing 50m on someone at their peak who is lets be honest, slightly better than average and depreciating would be bad business. id be all over gylfi like a rash if we were getting him for say 35m. but 50 million of the queens royal pounds?! talk about over rated inflated prem players.... city and chelsea dont care about resale because they are buying some of the worlds best players to win trophies. we are spending money to move from 7th to 6th.

spend 20m on giroud, 30m on another CB of similar elk to keane and we would be far better off.
