£40m Bid Made For Sigurdsson

Bottom line is that without the CL, it's tougher for us to get elite players. This guy is elite though. He's not paddy, but he has absolutely everything else. His first touch is amazing, he can spot the killer pass, he can score with both feet, he has great vision, and we now have the best free kick and corner guy in the league. Sign Giroud or Benteke and we are going to see a whole lot of goals.

And Ross would play on the right with Gyfil on the left I would think if he stays. If he doesn't, get a pacey winger out right and this is one elite CB away from being really really good.

Offer rejected (told it is £33m with add-ons to £40m) but Sigurdsson has refused to travel and told Swansea chairman by phone he wants to leave. Face-face meeting due where you'd assume Swansea will try/fail to change his mind ushering in a period of face-saving haggling (my bet is resulting in £38m rising to £45m) that will complete early enough for Sigurdsson to meet up with team in Holland.

How would those stats have looked for Barkley if he played for Swansea instead of Sigurddson is the question though
On average Sigurdsson's created chances must have been higher quality than Barkley's, because they had similar numbers of assists from open play, despite Barkley creating many more chances, and for a better striker.

7 Freekick goals in 182 premier league games from the free kick specialist?

Everyone last year was saying that we need to pay over the odds if we are actually going to sign good players. And sometimes that's just what you have to do.
He was apparently Koeman and Walsh's top target, so let's just get it done.
City had to pay the likes of £15m for Craig Bellamy about 8 years ago.

You've got to do it if you want to push on.

Said in the other gylfi thread, he's good but gets nowhere near a top 6 rival, when you're spending 40 mil and the wages he'll cost they should be capable of getting in the top sides

then why were his stats alongside all the best players for those top 6 teams. Highest assister amongst eriksen and de bryune and above some of the bigger names like ozil. Most goals from midfield compared to most midfielders from the top 6 too.

Given he hasn't gone to the US, this will obviously get done quick smart. Probs best to ignore any news coming from Swansea's side, they'll keep trying to look tough while the deal charges ahead.

40 mil is quite the price isn't it..

I'm not sure he's all that, but I can appreciate what he's good for. Would be excited to see him in this new Everton. Creativity all over the place, it's gonna be great. Still need some pace too though.

Just good that we're finally addressing the fact we haven't had a creative midfielder since Pienaar left with bringing in about 20 of them. F U Martinez.

I think a change in mindset is needed from the fanbase now and I include myself in that as I too think this is way too much for him. We as fans have been quite happy seeing other clubs overpay for our players - notably Man City, with Rodwell, Lescott and Stones. We can't have it all our own way and just using Lescott as an example. I bet City fans were a bit frustrated spending that much on him as £24m was extortionate at the time. But spending money like that has elevated their club to the top of the league and if us spending like this gets us in to the top 4 then i'm all for it.

Will any of their fans look back now and think 'we were mad to spend that much on him, we got ripped off'... No they won't because they will think of the success that overspending on him and others brought. As funny as it is that the RS have failed to win the league with overspending, it has still kept them near the top of the table and they have just often wasted the money on players which we may not necessarily do ourselves. Times have changed at Everton and our fans should be happy about it.

We have sold players for big amounts, have a Billionaire at the back of us and the huge TV money to be able to spend £40m+ on these players.
