Contrary to Michael Foot's biography / hagiography, Nye was noone's idea of a saint. What he did do, however, was articulate a socialist answer to the stark problems of his time and to leave noted orators like Churchill and Lloyd George floundering. When he whispered then shouted, "A Tory; a Tory!" a hundred year of struggle was laid out in front of you.

I don't think he was a wimp Pete, genuinely, I just think he made a knee-jerk decision. The old saying about when everyone is losing their heads comes into mind...

If you can keep your head whilst all around you people are losing theirs, you probably haven't realised the seriousness of the situation.

I agree with you completely. But back to the scenario in question please. Which of the five options would you advocate (with the fifth being the "some other idea not listed here" option) as the wisest move?
In an ideal world people would wait until they're financially stable but I can understand why people don't. Most people in my generation aren't at that point until there 30's and that's a long time to wait for some. Physically women are better off having kids when they are younger as well.

Most people delay kids as long as they can (biological clock) to avoid responsibility. Personally I don't think the financial aspect really comes into it although there are exceptions. It should but it doesn't.

He was a great orator, no doubt about that, but he was a fool. Russia regarded him as a useful fool. He was a man of principles, but they were misguided in the extreme. Fortunately the UK electorate saw straight through him.......
The electorate rarely make the wrong choice in my opinion.

Be honest Labour supporters. The thought of the two red Eds running the country scares the [Poor language removed] out you.

Which housing is over capacity due to immigrants? Immigrants tend not to have access to social housing. They can apply, but they won't get it ahead of anyone with a connection to the area. Immigrants do not put a strain on social housing - It's a myth.

The other myth is of course economic contribution. Immigrants put more in than they take out. We get the skills and labour without having to pay for the education and training. This is not to say that public services aren't under pressure but when you look at the bigger picture it is one of net contribution. Government policy not to invest in public services are why they are strained.
All housing is over capacity. That's why private rent is so high.

And you're just lying or misinformed if you don't think immigrants take social housing. I've seen it happen with whole neighbourhoods close to where I live. WHOLE neighbourhoods. We're talking close to a few hundred people all of one ethnic background.

Immigrants come to work but that simply drives down the cost for business of hiring people. That's how a market economy works. If there's more supply than demand prices lower. It's very good for the chattering classes since it lowers manual labour workmen as long as they don't do any profession that can be insourced but it's not good for working class people. It also means that the unemployment figures don't go down as they should.

That and as you said it increases pressure on public services which if the politicians don't then invest more it acts as a defacto cut because they get more tax but don't spend it appropriately on more public services.

So immigration is a way to 1. lower the costs for business and 2. make cuts in public services for existing citizens.

The fact it's a policy that Labour is a big believer in tells me how much the champagne socialists have fooled the working people for so long.

Mate, your arguments are beginning to lose credibility.

Just run through again why Labour wants to make cuts "in public services for existing citizens" ?

Real Irish or Faux?

@Prevenger17 is he on the Irish list?
I've never been accussed of being a faux irish before.

Look I'm not particularly for or against immigration or even EU like immigration but the facts are the facts. I have no problem with people saying yea you might be right however I still think the benifits outway the consequences and maybe here's how we can fix the issues.

I'm not even too sure where I stand on the issue. I think Dublin has improved due to immigration so it depends where you live.
