If Farage was to revoke the discrimation in hiring laws, it would be legal to advertise for a post and say 'whites only'. That's not british people only, that's whites only.

I think it's hard to argue that isn't somewhat racist.

It was to amend them to allow a company to hire a British person over a non British person. Nothing about race.

Brown was trying to ensure that there was no prejudice against British workers through jobs being advertised solely to oversees workers when making that statement. For what it is worth I think he made a mistake with how it was phrased.

Farage on the other hand wants to discriminate based on nationality or skin colour, ignoring suitability/ability to a the job. This view is obnoxious, racist and xenophobic and makes me sick. My wife has a Masters degree, a cracking CV and her contribution to our local community through the charity work she does is immense. She is fluent in French, English and Spanish. If she were to apply for a job suited to someone with her background and skills, do you think that she should be passed over purely due to her..........

a) Nationality? - Yes or No?
b) Skin colour? - Yes or No?
c) Religion? - Yes or No?

Can't wait for your answers.

Wasn't he talking about for two equally skilled people, an employer can choose to then pick the British person. Lol skin colour and religion as if either of those two things would make you not British.

Just going to leave this here, seems appropriate for this thread:

'There's a simple message to anyone who wants to have an effective left wing politics. If you persist in thinking that your views are the only ones that could possibly be held by any decent, sensible person and that therefore ipso facto anyone who doesn't have them is either a moron or evil then you are never going to win the argument.'

I listened to Nick Clegg's resignation speech earlier. When he talked about the conditions the last coalition came into at the start of their term he spoke about the global crash, how it was not just the UK but every major country in the world that was affected. During the election campaign he took a noticeably different stance, blaming everything on the previous Labour government - in line with the Tory mantra. I think the Tories played Clegg and his chums perfectly, getting them to go along with this on the assumption that the Lib Dems would end up in a coalition again. Labour basically allowed this deception that it was all their fault to take hold almost from day 1 of the coalition and did almost nothing to counter it. I remember when the brown stuff was really hitting the fan, with major banks on the edge of the precipice and Gordon Brown was the one to come up with the bail out packages etc. that brought not only the UK but the world economies back from the brink. This was widely lauded at the time but during this campaign even Labour seemed to have accepted that it had all been their fault. I can't believe how incompetent an opposition Labour have been over the past 5 years. They've let the country down and it is now the poor, the sick and the unemployed who will pay the price for it.

I worked and my mind was immediately taken off the fact that society will shortly be breaking down, I come into this thread and I'm depressed again. Hard working folk like me who earn less than 20k are well and truly fooked.

The domestic who looks after our place is a great little woman. Really bubbly, great to talk too and always makes sure you're OK. When the strike was on about Pensions a couple of years ago she was on the front line from 6am while people who earn 3 or 4 times what she does drove past her and went in work. She lost out on a days pay to fight for something that those people who drove past her would benefit more than her if she won the fight. That's what I struggle to get my head around. I may be coining it in but they are the people I want to look after and unlike the selfish Tory supporters I won't ever pull the ladder up now I'm alright Jack.

Oh, I know there are some.......how much do they cost again? How many people of the total claiming benefit are 'scroungers' according to you? 10%? 20?

How much goes unclaimed each year? Care to furnish us all with that one?

How much did IDS waste on this universal credit IT (At the latest count?)

And remind me - Who pays for the removal of people from their luxurious homes with their plethora of unused bedrooms, because of the bedroom tax? Does IDS?

And finally, remind me how much DWP spends on salaries, admin & welfare to work schemes.......Schemes that by even the government's own definition are worse than if the jobseeker had been left alone to find a job.

When you've got the answers, THEN tell me - WHO'S THE SCROUNGERS?

Must be great living on £72 p/w. Even though the EU has reported that the UK unemployment benefit system is: 'manifestly inadequate'

*Sigh* All I said was that I don't like scroungers (the ones I've described), and I also said I don't like tax dodgers.

The thing is.....With a 75% turnout, to win with a slender 412 majority means every single one of them labour voters must turn out next time, or the failed LD's & kippers will put the rats back in there.
She lost on a 'good' night for the Tories. When Labour, hopefully get their act together, and the country sees the fruits of a Conservative government the majority should increase.

Way to dodge the question. Please answer what you would do.

IDS is a scrounger...And so's his tart......but YOU voted for him @SNova

Claiming for a haircut & a pair of bills FCFS

£39 for his BREAKFAST!!!

Those scroungers musn't half live the life of Riley with their near double £72 p/w.

You are quite right that is not on. Having said that, the former Labour MP where I live Peter Pike was always right up near the top for claiming expenses, his annual figure averaged around £150,000 per year, but that was before the fiddling was cracked down on.

*Sigh* All I said was that I don't like scroungers (the ones I've described), and I also said I don't like tax dodgers.

But you don't know how many of them there are - do you? You don't know how much they cost compared to other things, do you?

And you said tax AVOIDERS before........

So what have you to say about IDS being an even worse scrounger?

Incidentally this thread makes me think labour are going to lose again in 5 years time.

You got your arses kicked. You need to work out why people don't want what you're selling and rebrand. You go again without rethinking where you went wrong and without respecting those who didn't vote for you and you'll lose again.
