2024/25 Relegation Thread

The game at the weekend was particularly bad from a certain points of view. Brighton are a good team in possession, when they got an extra man it was like our lads were chasing shadows. Then the manager made an odd substitution, bringing on Holgate for Harrison when we are down to 10 men and 2 nill down when we have Lindstom on the bench if you wanted to make an attacking change, O'Brien, if you want to make a defensive change, we had 9 minutes of stoppage time where we offered very little. I think the fans in the stadium have the right to walk if the team on the pitch are not showing anything in these circumstances.

The season is going to be a slog, like last season. But I think we have the players to get us to 40 points. It was one game. If we are still bottom after 8 games and the fans are leaving early from every game, then I will be more concerned.

The worst thing for me was Brighton's midfield wasn't even that good either. Two years ago they came to Goodison and Alexis Mac and Caciedo ran rings around everyone in that 4-1 stroll.

At the weekend it was Milner who's nearly 40 and moved as slowly as Young and Wieffer gave the ball away for the non-penalty.

Considering midfield is supposed to be a stronger part of this team it was worrying Brighton playing through so easily at times from 20th minute onwards. Will play plenty of teams in next few weeks with far better midfields than Brighton.

I still think with Branthy on the pitch that first goal dosen't happen so need him back pronto.

last season at goodison would be awful

Last season it was only three home wins up to start of April. That late season purple patch gave the home form a more flattering look than it really was.

Dycheball dosen't really translate into dominant home form and wins imo, was the same at Burnley from memory. However the same style picks up enough away points to be generally comfortable. Compare the away points under him compared to FSW/Lampard.

Just cannot see anything but a heavy defeat at the weekend particularly as Spurs let 3 points slip away late on against Leicester, they'll be doubly determined to get the 3 points this time.

Sobering looking at the line up from the last time to take points at WHL:

Digne, Mina, Coleman when he was still good and just look at that front three of Richi, Hames and DCL. Sigurdsson and Bernard as subs.

Could go toe to toe away with Spurs in that time, now it will be damage limitation from the first minute on Saturday.

But...but, we should be doubly determined to avoid another defeat, shouldn't we? But...but, then again, we are the current Everton and probably incapable of stepping up so, yes, really do not expect anything other than a resounding defeat.

Nil points out of the first six available will mean we are already chasing those above us who are potential candidates in the relegation mix. Does not bode well given the teams we are facing before the end of September.

And no, I am not a bed wetter but we really need to get some points on the board sooner than later. It's just that I don't know precisely where they are coming from other than -v- Bournemouth (H).

Damn, now I've gone and done it!

I've had a look at our full 2024/25 fixture list and tried not to be biased when forecasting results and got us finishing on 35 points after 38 matches - just hoping that will be enough to keep us in the top flight.

Having seen most of the teams and the results this week, I think we will finish above Ipswich and Southampton and then it is a lottery from there on in.

We look genuinely one of the 3 worst teams this season.

I don`t back us to hit 48 points again this season which leaves us vulnerable. The arrogance shown by the Dyche apologists who claim that Dyche will deliver at least the points haul of last season is staggering.

I don`t think we get near that, the points deduction pushed us to good winning runs, without them we just float along with loss after loss.
