2024/25 Relegation Thread

I'm definitely in favour of replacing Dyche but Potter teams can't score. It's a match made in relegation heaven.

The season he left Brighton they were scoring pretty regularly, they beat Leicester 6-2 in his final game.

I think at least Ndiaye and perhaps Lindstrom will look far better with another new signing.

Or you could just go with the tired and tested Moyes formula.

Dyche done a good job in last 18 months but he's served his purpose now and needs to be removed before things get much worse which could easily happen over the next six weeks.

Potter spent £100m to take Brighton from 40 points to 41 and 41 again in his first 2 seasons, finishing 16th.

His last season, he earned 3 more than Dyche did last season.

The hype is unreal.

We hired a guy who had a 26% win rate when he came here. A guy who had been unemployed for about nine months after being sacked for winning 4 in 30-or-so games I think it was. A guy who has lost 45% of all his games in his managerial carerer. A guy who had 4 relegations in 10 years was it?!?

No one with two brain cells to rub together should be the least bit surprised at where we find ourselves under this joker. No other club in the league would give him the time of day; we give him a 2.5 year contract. Says everything you need to know about this comedy club and the people running it.

I disagree with that. If Leeds had hired him in Jan 2023 they'd have stayed up comfortably, Leicester aswell. He inherited a mediocre squad that had just sold Gordon and hadn't replaced him after the botched Danjuma saga.

On the final day he had to play Gray as false 9 and change the formation due to no fit full backs and play Garner and McNeill as wing backs, luckily it worked.

Last season with all the potholes he did well. However that long winless run in the winter was a warning and now 12 months on back in that sort of mindset of hardly winning a game with a very tough run ahead.

I suspect he'll get the next 3-4 but he needs to be removed soon after otherwise could be firmly stuck in the bottom 3 by the time 2025 chimes.

What positions should Brighton have been finishing in those seasons? They'd been promoted after decades in the wilderness in 2017 and just stayed up on the last day of 18/19.

He totally changed their style from low block defensive under Chris Hughton.

It's a bit like saying Iraola at Bournemouth is no good if he finishes 14th this season when Bournemouth are doing brilliantly currently on 11k crowds.

Potter inherited better than Dyche. Arriving with a full pre season after they finished 40 points under Houghton in the Prem.

Do we have money to give Potter and 3 years to take us to what Dyche did last season?

Ultimately Potters Brighton record is worse than Dyche at Burnley and Everton.

Shall we also talk about Potter at Chelsea?

As for Bournemouth they also spent a few quid - lashing £100m+ in one window last summer and didn't win any more points than us last season.

You talk about expectations at Brighton - just because we're Everton, it doesn't mean we have a better team.

We are currently extrapolating 35 points from 38 games, under a manager who has zero desire or intent to win games, doesn't try to, just wants clean sheets and 0-0s from soulless, defeatist, negative, reactionay anti-football; plays for draws and sells draws as great results; just wants not to get beat and thinks he can drift to safety 1 point at a time with no requirement to win because that's what he used to do at Burnley 10 years ago and it usually worked.

The other 19 managers in the league seem to think they need to win games to achieve their objectives in 2024. I wonder which will be proven right...
We had 27 shots yesterday.. that's a lot from a team who's manager who just wants clean sheets and 0-0s.. our forwards are incompetent simple as that.. our defence is very good infact since the start of October we've conceded least in the league let in 4 goals in 8 games..
Hopefully we'll get a few forwards back from Injury soon.

I think if Dyche stays we definitely go down as I don’t see us winning a game till Jan at the earliest

We need a manager who can simultaneously get players who have never scored the level of goals we need to start doing so.

Also one who can make the likes of McNeil, Doucoure, Gana, Harrison find some pace they've never had. Pace. Imagine that?

We need to spend in Jan to bring players in who can do something in the final third. Like Minteh and Gnonto would have done.

O.k but if not Potter you'd still want a manager that plays that style of Football. Hiring another Dyche clone wouldn't be acceptable to me. I've mentioned Moyes aswell but that would only be a short term thing to the end of the season similar to Big Sam in 17/18.

We have a proud record to protect. Let's hope the bittersweet Moshiri era hasn't led to the gap at the top decreasing.

Moyes had Bowen, Kudus and a much better team and achieved 4 more points than us last season. I don't think he's the answer.

It's nice to say you want a manager that plays "that style of football" - but you also need the players to do so. It's why the likes of Bielsa laughed us off.

If the sale goes through then would be interesting to see what the new owners do if we don't get a result v wolves, whether they wait til Jan or bite the bullet and get rid

They'd surely have to move him out if the derby goes badly and follows not beating Wolves. Arsenal away a write off regardless and then who knows perhaps a caretaker could get a result off Chelsea at home, Ferguson did when he had his spell in 19/20 (also got a draw away to Man. United). Not sure who internally in the club could take over for a few weeks as Woan and Steve Stone will be sent packing aswell when Dyche is potted. Baines?

27 shots is misleading though. I can only think of three decent chances yesterday. Don't think you can count Gana's hit and hopes tbh.
