6 + 2 Point Deductions

Leicester have made total mugs of the Premier league and good luck to them.
They have just employed a competent lawyer who basically tells them to change their accounting year to the end of June and the jobs a good un.
All of Leicesters accounts for the last 20 years plus have been the end of May but last April they changed it to the end of June creating the loophole.

Tbf, from my admittedly basic understanding of the situation, we couldn't have exploited this loophole as we didn't go down. It does however add more weight to Forest's case imo, a big part of their defense was not selling Johnson before June 30th to get better value for him.

Everton should be kicking off though about how they received the most Draconian punishment for rules which Leicester have, beyond all doubt, proven to be unfit for purpose.

Their starting penalty was always less than ours because of our appeal.

Remember the PL were initially asking for over 10.

You could only appeal once, our appeal brought the baseline down for Forest.

Masters needs sacking.

The issue as I see it as it relates to us regardless of the loophole and whether it applies to us or not is.

1) We were sanctioned 8 and laterally 6 points for a smaller breach then Leicsteirs for the same PSR cycle they were charged.

2) If you can’t apply the rule equally for the same breach for the same period amongst competing clubs. Then the rule it self is inequitable and thus invalid.

Yeah another thing we were done particularly for "misleading" the prem. Leicester again have made a mockery of that. Good on them.

This whole separate commission regarding our interest payments now is even more interesting. Most sources say we have nothing to fear but we are the whipping boys and who's to say they'll go in harder on us now because another team mugged them off?

The only thing left for the PL is to pursue Leicester for “failing to act in good faith” which is stipulated in the PL rule book.

Leicester refused to hand over financial info before 22-23 seasons end(whilst under PL jurisdiction)and changing the date of their year end versus the previous 20 years experience highlights a gaming of the rules.

Fat chance it will happen.

"We want our points back, we want our points back" - Could do with them right now!

Fair play to Leicester, although I think it paves the way for Citeee and Chelsea to have f'all thrown at them

Let's get some compo.

The latter point is really important. In their own statement the PL state that this leaves them unable to enforce the rules fairly and consistently. Their words.

I don’t see how they can continue to apply these laws under these circumstances - the whole of 23/24 operated under those rules not to mention they are still pursuing us over 22/23 despite already having been punished.

If they have admitted the rules (as now interpreted) are unfair they surely can’t continue with proceedings brought under those rules or bring new proceedings for 23/24 under those rules, whichever clubs may be involved.

Yeah I don’t think it’s particularly genius lawyering or something our lawyers couldn’t have come up with: its not a super technical loophole, it’s inaccurate drafting and fairly easy to spot that Leicester weren’t an EPL club at the end of the FY and think maybe that’s something we can try.

Think it’s more that they were bang to rights on all other things and really had no other arguments and thought “well we might as well…..” and got the highly literal appeal panel they needed to win.

Yeah. Some are making out that it's some genius word play they've untangled.

Basically they argued the dates in the rules don't apply. The EFL dodged them too.
