6 + 2 Point Deductions

The selling of the better players happened after we had completely failed in our bid to gain the sporting advantage. Otherwise, we would never have signed those 'better' players in the first place. The fact that we didn't gain any sporting advantage is due to rank bad management and poor decisions making.

Everyone is right. Everyone except for the PL, because whatever the original aim, we didn't do it, so no sporting advantage was gained. In fact, the very existence of the PL PSR meant that we had to curb our ambition and retreat backwards.
My understanding of 'sporting advantage' worthy of sanction is directly related to achieved in an unsporting manner which it was not. Even when we spent higher there were still quite a few clubs outspending us.
I agree with you that PSR is not sporting in the least, because clubs maintain their sporting advantage in an unsporting manner and focus on us temporarily overspending worthy of sanction is utterly ridiculous given that fact alone.

Anything happening with Andy B letter?

To be fair, if we aren't signing players to get better, and therefore gain a sporting advantage, then what the hell are we doing?

Regardless of how bad we were at actually gaining that advantage by buying the right players, the reason for buying players MUST always be to gain a sporting advantage by being better.
That would be the logical theory however we went from Lukaku, Stones, Barclay and Gerry to an expired Rooney, player X, Ashley Williams and Walcott.

There was no intention at all. Just pure clownery of the highest order. No strategy or scouting structure, just the sort of stupidity a promoted club in the early 2000s tried to stay up by paying big wages to journey men.

That said, the whole sporting advantage debate is a red herring as it’s a flimsy and subjective argument that can’t be measured to show a tangible impact.
