I assume it's a common thing now - a club doesn't want a player to leave, but appreciates that they will probably want to compete for trophies and play in European competition. The player agrees to sign a bigger contract (and therefore a bigger transfer fee) in exchange for the club not standing in their way a year or two down the line.Branthwaite isnt going anywhere.
