6 + 2 Point Deductions

Yep, it's now blindingly obvious that - like all the other times - the people running the club outright lied to us all. The documents show that the Premier League was in fact signing off on our actions - as we were told - but were also continuously warning us that we were pushing it - which we weren't told. And we just kept pushing it until it bit us.

And we admitted to the breach, which directly contradicts all the statements coming from the club that we did nothing wrong and would defend ourselves fully.

Sham all around.

Doesn't change the fact that the punishment is disproportionate, of course, but the club is not clean-handed in this mess.

Agree totally mate, the punishment is incredibly disproportionate, they are making our club a scapegoat an example to others. The premier league have stabbed us in the back, we were supposed to he working hand in hand with them. Just look at thd punishment the super 6 sides got and let me hear anyone say our punishment is fair I'll call them a liar to their face.

It's not about them being in control of the finances, it's the idea to take action if they feel a club are heading a certain direction. Hence why we were in close communication.

If this wasn't the case, we'd have spunked more money rather than be the lowest spenders in the league for about 3 seasons.

But by your and I'm guessing the commission opinion, the club was spectacularly naive to even be in close communication with the PL in regards to our financial situation. Because it was the belief that if there were any worries and concerns the PL would've advised or intervened.

They didn't. Other clubs threatened to sue but the PL responded by saying we were compliant.

If being in communication with the PL meant nothing we wouldn't have done it.
It does read like we were in special measures, but the PL kept saying buy who you want, but on your head be it. Pointless.

But the thing that worries me about the Chelsea and City cases versus ours is that - for all the sheer number of charges they both will have - they're not the same kind of charges ours were, right?

I mean, ours was a straightforward spending of too much money versus our income. Whereas Chelsea and City are accused of skirting the rules using fake companies, subsidiaries, etc. rather than just spending too much in general, unless I'm mistaken.

So while their actions are obviously much more ethically fraught than ours, because they are not the exact same type of actions, they might not be looking at the exact same type of punishment. Maybe they give them something other than a points deduction, thus leaving our case to stand more on its own?

I'm under no illusion that all of this will be treated fairly, but you can already see how the unfairness will try to be justified by the league and other authorities - different crimes, different punishments.

They won't get the same or similar punishment IMO as they'll see it as historical issues. Both their lawyers will tie they up in riddles and they'll get a slap on the wrist.

I'm not going to read all the comments.. But everyone should play their part and start making a racket make sure the authorities and powers that be know they've messed with the wrong club (I say club, I mean fans, because for a large part of the last number of years the club have been far too aloof, managed decline and their mistakes put us in this position).

I’ve done a quick read through of the Commision’s document it’s here if this hasn’t already been posted :https://www.premierleague.com/news/3788486

We really are a shambles some of the things we tried to blag and include in like the 4%Transfer Levy . So we believe we’re “ £7.9 mill over” , so guilty . The Commission believe the PL that we‘re £19.5 mill over. The PL suggested a points deduction based on 6 points if over plus 1point for every £5 mill over , so 10 points on that formula. The Commission rejected that formula , but surprise surprise said there was no mitigation , here’s a 10 point deduction.!!

It’s difficult to see how our appeal will work . “ We’re guilty, but it’s harsh with no real mechanism for working out what the punishment should be” seems to be the only way .

There is also the suggestion in there that 12 points is the maximum sanction. If so the likes of City and Chelsea may just accept a one season 12 points and settle out of court.
Thanks for clarifying that. I was under the impression that the Commission was in fact going by that structured standard, hence the 10 points. If they in fact rejected it but then arbitrarily came up with 10 points anyway, then we would have a better chance of getting that reduced on appeal as an unfairly harsh punishment.

Had they actually been publicly committing to that standard, it would be hard to see how we could get it reduced on appeal after having already admitted guilt. Which was my argument earlier in the thread.

But it does now open the door a little to the appeals strategy of "well, we are guilty, but the punishment doesn't remotely fit the crime."

Wait what... when did that happened (btw I guess you mean the UAE)? If true, it's one of the reasons I don't want the gov having a controlling power over the PL or lower-leagues. They'll use it to their benefit, especially the Tories.

Article in today's Athletic. Yes UAE.

Basically saying the UK government have admitted that the UK embassy in Abu Dhabi have discussed man City's rule breaches but won't disclose the correspondence because it would risk the UKs relationship with the UAE.

At a time when Boris Johnson, then PM, took £60k from the Saudis to "review the Newcastle takeover"...says a lot
