CEO reports/sits to/on the board and the board provide strategic direction/objectives for the company overall. But the board don’t meet all the time even every week to make decisions, prob far less then most assume. So CEO is generally in charge of day to day operations and oversees heads of divisions, who oversee staff in each division day to day.
