You could call it a 'hobby', but it is serious research into primary documents here and in Germany. My full time job was a civil servant for nearly 33 years, so the research and travelling had to fit in around that. I was also a semi-pro guitarist from January 1969 to September 2022 also. Kept me off the streets, I suppose! :D;)
Potentially serious question. Why have the German production houses not published their specs, designs, trials and finals that've allowed yourself such a crowbar into the historical market?

Any books on British or American bombers? 👍

my daughter is studying WW2 history at uni, specifically the allied bombing, any good books you could recommend fella, thanks 👍
I haven't done any research into British or American bombers (although I did meet a small contingent from the 100th Bomb Group over two decades ago)

I would recommend the books by Roger Freeman on the USAAF based in this country. Roger is a top class researcher and writer. ALso the books by Theo Boiten, who has written a series of books on the Luftwaffe fighter force. It is a comprehensive work, and will no doubt cover the RAF incursions in detail.

Oh right, so not really proper research. Good effort though.

I think German publishers over the decades stuck to simple unit histories, and individual histories by the likes of Adolf Galland, rather than in-depth publications that were readily available over here in the pre-internet days.

Myself and Peter Cornwell got a lot of help from German researchers, who were able to easily get into the German archive system and get a lot of information out that way.

Who does the russki stuff re their tech from pre wall down?

Believe me, it IS real, proper research.
Here's a copy of an original document, a 'Namentliche Verlustmeldung' (Personnel loss list) from the Deutsche Dienststelle (WASt) in Berlin:
Nam Ver 15 8 40 03.webp

And correspondence from an RAF pilot who intercepted the raid on which the above losses were suffered:
Worrall Croydon 01.webp
Worrall Croydon 02.webp

To repeat, this IS serious research.

What I meant is it's not going to as good as a proper academic researchers work. I think you are a tryer, but it's not quite there. 10/10 for effort tho.

This thread has taken a very odd turn. OldBlue really does like telling us about his books/himself. One might think it's a wum account.

When the Berlin wall came down, and Russia was more open, their archives were accessible for the first time. The person who has done an incredible amount of work on them is researcher/writer Christer Bergström. Also, on internet pages, an Australian named Nick Hector has done an incredible amount of work on 'claims v losses' on the Russian Front, and called into question some previous notions about Luftwaffe claims.

Believe me, academics are up their own arses with their own 'theories', and those works I have read from academics are just so full of their own self-important writing that they are not worth much in terms of advancing the general public's knowledge. Why? Because they are writing for professors and other academics.

Without blowing smoke up my own ass, I would go with myself, Peter Cornwell, Chriss Goss, Andy Saunders, Simon Parry, Mark Postlethwaite, Christopher Shores, Michael Payne(RIP), Jochen Prien, Heinz Mankau, Peter Petrick, Eric Mombeeck, Peter Rodeike, Gerhard Stemmer, Hans Ring, Jean-Louis Roba, and loads more proper researchers.

Not as good as proper academic researchers? Not quite there? Oh dear, I'm laughing again. Try buying one of my books, reading it, and then saying that. Sorry, Dglc, what you said is a load of bollocks! Tell me, do you class yourself as an 'academic'...?
