Wtf is this
My point was that AD is not the most technical midfielder in Pl, but he usually gets better throughout the matches because he has a very big engine. Which means that his technique does not suffer very much from the physical demands of the matches, something that his more technical competitors struggle with. Therefore, we must also use him as a box to box player, and not limit him as Ancelotti often did last year. He will probably be very important under Benitez, and the way he wants Everton to play.

You free him up to push on and he can do damage. But it's why the midfield needs balance with someone who can sit and then another player to help break up the play too. Hopefully Gbamin comes in and if we can shift Delph and Gomes, we then need a player who adds that creative spark too and can carry the ball.

It's all about options for the squad and improving those options, not being reliant on 11-12 players

He has been asked to change his game a bit and get forward more, which suggests he was asked to sit more last season.

If he is capable of playing like that regularly, it shows that more of the problems lay with how the the manager wanted us to play.
I will be slagged for this but his goal was not that great. Defence allowed him to spin around about 20 times in a very ponderous way while he worked out what to do. Shot was not even that quick. Just abysmal defenders allowing him half an hour to get a shot away.

Incorrect. I was as pleased as anybody we scored, it just does my head in when it is made out to be the worldie it was not.
Remember that goal Rooney scored for his hat trick against West Ham from in our half? Does that not count as a worldie because the keeper messed up? Of course it does, no matter if the defending was terrible or not he created the chance with a class turn and smashed it into the top corner.

It was in the top corner. Anywhere else and the keeper gets it or if goes wide.
Notwithstanding the defenders performance, he still had to put it into that position.

Just seeing an Everton midfielder in the box would have been enough of a result for me, to then see him spin and thunder it in to the top of the net was like a dream come true for me personally. He looked like Pogba at his best yesterday when he went on one of his runs from our own box then distributed it beautifully......magic stuff.

we seen more of him going forward yesterday than we did in the whole of last season, looks like he has been given the green light to stride forward more

…the big plus was he was in the box. He’ll never be a Frank Lampard but if he’s willing to hit the box he’ll get easier chances than the one he converted yesterday.

i still think he’s more effective without the ball than with it, getting goal side of breaks with his running power, blocking challenges & spoiling. His passing radar was good yesterday but we have to accept it won’t always be that good. He won’t often reach the heights we just saw but it’s the graft that’s the key.

Feel he’s in line for a very good season.. think his contribution last season was under appreciated actually cos of errant passing.. but playing to his strengths we could have a much more effective player on ours hands too on top of the workhorse from last season
