What are your thoughts mate? He’s been pretty good under Dyche but I think he’s way too inconsistent. This forum is a funny place though. People tend to have short memories at times it seems. Me included.

Im a huge fan mate, think he’s criminally underatted.

I think it’s well established our results go South without him in the team, under Carlo, that yoke, Lampard and recently under Dyche - the evidence base is there. I also think he eas huge in keeping us up last year and could be huge this year if we do it. Hugely influential and enabling in what he brings and he leads. Our best central midfielder of the past three seasons.

It seems like all of the really bad spells over the past three years or so have been when Doucoure has been out of the side due to injury or suspension

Ive seen the reports he’s on 100k, I believe hes on 82k a week, which is about 4 odd million a year about our average.
Yeah I keep finding different numbers tbh, I just remember reading something a while back. I think you have to remember his age, it's very much going against him now. It's final payday time and we can't really do final payday signings anymore imo.

Different numbers out there mate, but a lot of those salary websites just make it up.

We don’t need to offer him a new improved contract mate we just need to activate the option then see how we are fixed next season. Defo a keep for me - if we stay up.

I know we don't but he wants it by all accounts. Things are different and we won't be paying 30+ year old's that sort of money anymore, Thelwell is trying to implement a wage structure at the club. He will leave in the summer imo.

Hard to know what to believe really mate, I take everything in the media with a pinch of salt. Personally don’t think he’s demanding huge money (we contractually don’t have to give it) you don’t come out and say you don’t want to leave - if you’re looking for a huge pay rise from your current employer, zero leverage.

Doucoure is a strange one to pin down for me.

He's at his best as a marauding box to box that has license to join attacks and get into the box. He's not a great finisher, but he puts himself into great positions and seems to will the ball into the net at times.

He has an engine.

However, he is a travesty whenever we have possession, perhaps the worst midfielder we have, including Gana, with the ball at his feet. Horrendous passer.

He's the type of guy that should be playing when we expect to counter, like last night. However, he is a major liability, in my opinion, in a side that is expected to have possession.

Great post. And you've nailed it. Reading this forum today and the same mistakes are being trotted out about giving him a new contract. When we got battered by newcastle and he was anonymous, nobody was saying quick get him singed up for another few years.
Everything clicked yest. But that is a very rare result and performance for Everton. Lets not be offering everyone a contract over one game.
He can be ok in games and then disappear for a few. The club needs better players on the ball. There's a very good reason why we're down the wrong end of the table so often now.

Don’t care what he’s on or what he wants or what the club can afford. After a game like that, and indeed a great performance from him, he should have batted such questions away with a “fully focussed on the next 3 games, it’s not about me, it’s about the next 3 games, everything else can wait.” Responses like that should pure instinct for any player, particularly when you are already paid millions and have had wildly sporadic form over the life of your contract.

The fact that he didn’t has put him back to tit status for me. Selfish in the extreme in the current situation, both in terms of relegation and our financial mess to talk like that so openly. Shocker from him.

Still starts next 3 games as clearly he can put his contractual gripes to one side and perform well. Fair play on that. Then can do one with a solid firm thanks 🤝
