….I think it’s a very sensible and obvious deal. Anyway, he’s now under contract so I imagine the club can seek a fee if he moves in the summer.

It's a no brainer if we stay in the league and can afford his wages.

Scenario 2- we go down and can't afford his wages, who's going to pay him 100k a week like we do? Nobody, so in theory he would happily run his contract down and get a free move in a year anyway.

Say we go down - we're then saddled with a player on around £100k p/w in the Championship.... is that not a bit risky given our financial situation?

Any decent agent is going to insist the decision is made within a few days of the anticipated end of the season so his client can secure his next move. We could’ve tried to make the deadline a few weeks later to cover all eventualities but would’ve probably been told where to go.

It would have been a kindness to do this months ago. Letting us get within a week of seeing the back of him is just cruel.

But then, it's hardly surprising. The club seems to have been dealing exclusively in players and managers that I can't abide for quite some time now.
