2023/24 Abdoulaye Doucoure

I cannot for the life of me understand why, when we are breaking , does he run straight at the ball or the man carrying the ball?

Ran straight in front of Harrison yesterday when he was breaking and then started chasing DCL and was essentially running along side him when he was breaking down the line.

He looks like he traded half his brain for an extra lung…

Just watched that three on one with Harrison again. He runs right in front of Harrison taking away DCL as an option, then by the time Harrison reacts to that Doucoure is offside. No wonder Harrison shot. My lord.

He's been good this season but you just know he will be rewarded with a stupid fat contract and turn back into turbo gash, I can't get the images of him downing tools under Lampard out of my head..

A leopard never..........

Interesting to see who plays in his role against Burnley (I assume he'll be rested). Doucoure is very important to us for Dyche's system, because he is a bit of a freak athletically, but would be interesting to see how we fare with a technically superior player in that position.

If Doucoure is out then i would go for Beto + Chermiti. Cant hurt as a roll of the dice.

We took up the extension last summer and hes still working his socks off.

I think hes someone deserving of a season but perhaps the 2 years is to allow us to sell him at some point when he still holds some value.

Cannot imagine he gets more than an extra year. He won't be one of the lower earners so giving him £80-odd thousand a week for the next two years is a bit dangerous in our financial situation. I think he's deserving of an extra year to take him to June 2025 though. He's been one of the most effective players under Dyche.

There will be a lot of clubs interested in signing him, just because some here can't see what he brings to a team doesn't mean that those who make their living out of football can't.

Not every player in a team has to be a wonderful footballer.

The weird thing is that when we’re in and around the box his movement is actually outstanding
I remember watching his movement for that strike against Brentford and the way he managed to get himself back onside and lose his man to get an extra half yard was superb

He’s got no awareness except when he’s sniffing out a chance
He’s got no technique except when he hammers strikes in the corner
He’s got no control except when he suddenly plays a quick pass and move
He can’t tackle except when he smashes through people sometimes and comes away with the ball

He’s a complete enigma

He didn’t down his tools though, Lampard made it clear he was never getting a game because he wanted to play silly quick passing football
He should’ve never sat on the ball in the warm up but honestly I can understand being fed up knowing you could contribute to a losing team but not getting a chance

Just a reminder, Lampard chose to play knackered Dele, Gomes, Davies and Van de beek over Doucoure and you can see from Doucoures very first performance under Dyche that he kept himself match fit and ready to be called upon the whole time which is all you can ask really

Not really sure why there’s so much hate for Doucoure or the assertion that he’s technically limited. It’s made out like he’s Ali Dia.
One of our most effective players. Wholly deserving of the new contract being mooted.
Had Lampard worked out in no time.
We're better for having him in the team that not, but far too many fans will not acknowledge or admit that.

No one has denied he's been effective, he's been one of our most important players under dyche.

You can't however deny that he is technically atrocious most of the time

His movement is not outstanding. He has no awareness of what’s going on but sometimes his headless ness make him look like he has the footballing IQ equivalent of Stephen hawking …. When in actually fact he has the technique of Stephen hawking

I think we need competition for the no 10 position, I think someone more technically gifted would help when we are trying to break down opposition defences, perhaps teams that are sitting in at Goodison. I’ve no problem with Doucoure remaining as part of the squad. In my opinion he’s better suited to playing in the team when we are sitting in, counter attacking, like in the last game at West Ham. I think if we want to dominate possession, pin teams in and break them down, we need another type of no 10 as an option.
