He gets absolutely fair criticism because he offers athleticism and no football ability. It's not about "stylistic" ideologies, it's about a footballer controlling a ball more than once a month, or finding a pass, or doing anything remotely football-like more often (like during the course of a game, not the course of a month).

We "bossed" the midfield because Mangala moved upwards and he could actually play a pass - Doucoure played 3 yard passes to either him or Ndiaye and looked on, just standing there, when he didn't have a ball to chase. The same effect can be enabled by having someone who can also pass and actually play with the ball, not ONLY without it. He also misplaced way more than 1 pass hahah

Absolutely criminal to even involve him as some important piece of a nonsensical puzzle - Dyche has to fit him anywhere, hence him playing in central midfield earlier and us being ran over 90% of the time as he 1) chases shadows leaving half the midfield open or 2) being unable to pass adequately.

This is not a hybrid 10, this is a second striker that drops deep, but can't do anything except run.

He's a fantastic athlete but an absolute carthorse of a footballer. Feet like 50p coins.

I think his athleticism is fading badly too. Think it's why we are way down at the bottom of the league in terms of pressing this season.

Arguably the worst player I've ever seen in our midfield technically. He's Straq levels of bad.

I think we will change mate honestly, the moment TFG get the go ahead then can see Dyche being gone the same day and any progressive manager who actually wants to even attempt to play football will have Doucoure nowhere near the starting 11.

We look more effective with him on the side under Dyche purely because we make zero attempt to actually try to play or to keep possession.

If my memory is right mate, he only started the first two, wasn't he benched Vs Bournmouth.

I've no idea mate, i think TFG are a wildcard honestly have no idea what they will do, but sure eventually you'd like to think we will move on from having to rely on Doucoure being one of our most influential players, for sure.

Personally dont think we have players good enough to play anything else then we played last night, we have done a fair bit of experimentation with it.

We totally bossed the midfield last night with him making it a three and also no one looked isolated in forward positions last night, that's what he enables. I think singling out one mis placed pass or the like is doing him a massive disservice, he enables so much in the system.

I love Illy but he was really ineffectual last night, trying to dribble and do step overs.

I find it hard to come up with a more influential player for us - in this period were we have been on our backsides over the past four years.

Id be surprised if he changes now as regards to the hybrid 10.

I think frankly, we have proved with our start to the season we aren't good enough to go without him in the hybrid 10 role.

Even the casual follower of football would recognise he cant do a job in Centre midfield against half decent opposition, this is where i loose faith with Dyche, not sure what he saw in competitive games that allowed him to believe that Doucoure could play Centre Mid especially with better option available.

The thing is he can - we're just asking him to play with the ball.

Carlo had it right - make him a water carrier that runs all game, but just make him let go of the ball in short simple passes to two better midfielders ASAP.
 
I often say that they are premier League players and of course they can pass a football and do pass and move plays but in Doucouré's case I genuinely think he could be the worst technical player in the League, his passing is genuinely awful. He also gets nowhere near the amount of goals and assists he should playing in the #10 role.

I find it mad that our highest paid players best attribute is running hard and working hard.

Is that what you call experimenting, moving a few players around but playing the same tactics

Yeah I agree with the way Carlo played him, but watching him this season his legs have gone.. he still puts in the miles but he's in 4th gear going up a hill the whole time.
It defeats the purpose of our press other than not having Dom jogging between defenders on his own.
We badly need an upgrade, think it would change the whole structure of our play

How many games has he played in the position he played against Wolves? That's his most effective position IMO. I think for a lot of games this season he's played deeper with McNeil as the advanced central midfielder.
 
Watching Bou/Spurs last night i couldnt help wonder how it is little old Bournemouth have surpassed Everton with players who are all technically sound on the ball.
I try and stay out of this thread as he's the epitome of where Everton have got it so wrong and it genuinely depresses me that Everton made him the clubs top earner when he wouldnt be allowed to put the kit out at Bournemouth 😂

1 is too many.

He's played the entirety of Dyche's tenure so far there - it hasn't helped him be a better footballer.
