So a deal has been done.. detractors go to statements.. what has he done? 4 managers didn’t like him and attitude...

First it’s hard to do anything when you’re given 5 mins at the end of a rubbish game and you have to turn it around and be a hero or you’ve done nothing.

One manager did like him and gave him 7 games starting with another 4 subs.. that’s the exact number of starts that he was given in his whole Everton career in the EPL. Because stats don’t count here and it appears neither do assists or goals I won’t bore you with his contribution vs the forum favourite who was in his position.

Attitude. I never saw anything other than a kid trying to play football.

It says a lot that a club who didn’t land their player last year were happy to wait out another whole season and come back again... they didn’t move on.

As said I’m happy he is leaving. We get decent money for a player that was never going to be given a shot and he gets to have a proper career with actual game time... I hope it works out for him. He’s still young but with the right nurturing can have a storming career.

Good luck lad..best thing you could do was leave... it feels the only way to be appreciated sometimes here is to never actually play at all and spend all your time on loans never being tested and developed on the big stage. Once that happens and you not the finished article you’re turned on super quick.

If you put a mirror between this situation and Gomes making a perm move, it proves that sometimes things just dont click.

Barca thought Gomes would replace some genius. Didnt. Came here on loan. Clicked. Deal done.

Its the exact same thing. We invested a few bob, to say the least, in Lookman. Didnt work. Went on loan. Clicked. Deal done.

Reckon Barca boards are crying in case Gomes came good here? No, me neither.

There has to be some realism to the debate really. In an ideal world he fulfils his potential here and we sell his for double what we have done. Thats the perfect scenario really, and what Leipzig will be aiming to do if they can get 2 consistent seasons out of him. However not every deal is going to be perfect and in truth if we can salvage some "good" from the two years of chaos from Walsh, Koeman and latterly Allardyce then in realistic terms thats about as good as it gets.

Sometimes in life you make a mistake and it's a salvage job. All in all that has been not bad from the Lookman situation. Reading anywhere from 22-24 million quid- around treble what we paid for him for a lad who has not settled, not really done the business here and wants away. Not perfect by any stretch but a positive.

In a wider sense I'd normally say we need to learn from said situations but I do feel the club has. The last round of signings have all been planned and 5 out of 6 had very good seasons. We seem to be investing in younger players and giving them more game time now, as well as supporting them if they are struggling a bit. If we signed Lookman now, I am more confident he would fulfil his potential here, Vlasic too, but in truth it was just the wrong time for both players.

As for young players, I am not sure it will be the worst thing in the world. What they will see, is that the club will not be unreasonable if they want to go.The message is fine to me.

As I said a few weeks ago, if he won't sign a contract he has to go. It's never easy selling to Germany but we have got a big fee and you'd imagine some sort of sell on will be in too. So not a bad salvage job all in all.

If the 26m euro being quoted is correct that’s in excess of £24m. Excellent business, carry on Marcel. Cost us about £1m to give this fella a chance to prove himself (plus wages). A gamble, but still a healthy profit.
Don't forget there will be a payment too Charlton in a selling on fee bonus for Charlton ...... so we will not get all the funds?

It isn't a great look. I don't think it was deserved but the point in that post was that other players might look at that situation and be put off by it.
Possibly. But they could also look at the situation of Richarlison, DCL, Davies, our 2 relatively young centre halves who all got plenty of game time last season and think the opposite.

This is a very smart decision

Throwing away talented youngsters is a legitimate problem if it keeps happening.

He had been thrown away though hadn't he? I think we have be realistic enough to say, the 2 wasted years of Walsh/Koeman will mean lots of good players have been lost. I'm not against learning from the mistake, but I don't think anybody at the club, or amongst the fan base is of the illusion that there is anything positive to come from it.

If we balls up Richarlinson, Or Malcolm/Keane/Leao or whoever then we can criticise the current leadership.

It was a nightmare situation, but we've close to doubled our money on Vlasic (and certainly will once the sell on fee kicks in) and trebled our money on Lookman. It's not a bad consolation prize, as long as lessons are learnt.

Not sure who the CBs are? Mina and Holgate? Holgate didn't play after October and was behind Jags. He deserved it but still. Mina had played a massive amount of first team football already in South America. He was established. Davies was 4th and is now 5th choice.

But the bigger problem is the production level of Lookman and Vlasic away from here. For that to not matter might scare new players who don't want to find themselves in the cold if they don't produce immediately.
