I'm made up he's going. At the price mooted, this is up there with the Solanke deal.

It's absolutely staggering that a non-PL club is willing to spend this kind of money on such a painfully average player.

As many have said, he didn't look happy here, so I hope he goes and has a great time in Germany.

To think, if we were to get, say £15m for Onyekuru this summer and added it to this fee and Vlasic's, we'd have taken the best part of £50m in transfer fees for 3 players who have almost never played for us. And they're all smack bang average players built for crap leagues. Incredible really.

Pity we’re spending the money on players like Delph.

It's good business for a player that can't even be described as having played a bit part role for us since joining.

He may well turn out successful there but there is this idea that players can live off some fanciful reputation for years without delivering and he didn't deliver. It doesn't matter what the circumstances were, he just didn't.

So all in all not a bad return on a generally failed signing and he gets the move he wants.

Good luck to him. This increases the likelihood that we'll sign someone else in the mould of what Brands and Silva want and we just hope it's money reinvested wisely.

Glad he’s gone, the little sulky get.

He didn’t want to be here and now he’s not. Hope we have a sell on because Zat could look good in the Bundesleague.

Then arsenal but him for stupid money, and he’s back to being toilet over here

He looked so promising in that first game he played for us vs City, shame he just declined after the initial hype, hopefully we've stuck a nice sell on fee as part of the sale in case he somehow comes good again

“Painfully average player” “built for crap leagues” reminds me of a winger with 1 goal all season and 14 in 95 in the Russian league

It was €25M, so £22.5 mil is quite a lot more, plus the exchange rate is almost like for like at the mo too
His contract has ran down by a year nor did he do much to warrant an increased fee sadly. Whether that was through not being given a chance, poor attitude or a mix of both is unknown however.
I don't think we did get that offered last season. I think we got under offered and the rest were add ons IIRC. We wanted £25-28m and wouldn't drop lower.

Now his stock has fallen and we've taken a £3m hit I suppose. Not great business but Silva clearly believed he could get a tune out of him last year. Didn't work out.
It was a very poor decision to delay this sale for a year.

  • We got about the same as was offered as season
  • We retained a player with the wrong attitide
  • We lost the opportunity to have this cash last season when a striker was just as imperative as it is now

An utter calamity.
