Ademola Lookman

We had a new manager and DOF last season. Lookman is/was highly rated, it would make sense to check him out first before making a decision on him.

I would assume they thought they could get something out of them. Obviously after a longer look they have decided he is not the one for them. Its not really that bad business. Bad business would be blindly making decisions on assets without even looking at them.
It would make sense to check him out and I really wish they had done that.

I don't know if Davek rates him or not but from a business standpoint holding on to an asset for a year and not getting any tangible benefit from it and then selling it a year later at the same price is bad business. If you don't need it you take the money when offered.

The far better thing to do would have been use him last season. But by not doing that we made the decision to not sell last year wrong as well.
He would have been used had he applied himself. The manager said that and it is good enough for me as he's in the best position to judge it.

Football isn't the same as any other business. There are plenty of risks and unknowns.

He could have performed this year and made a starting spot his own. He didn't. He sulked because he didn't get his move for the first couple of months and then hardly had any performances worth remembering last season. Nobody knew that's how his season would go but that's what happened. We gambled on him kicking on and he hasn't done it and still wants to go. Fine, we sell him and make a profit and invest those funds into another player who does want to be here, that is actually good business.

Will that player asset be a success? No way to know for certain. Football as a business has those risks.

I was hoping he was going to be the next Pat Nevin but my brother said I must have rose coloured glasses covered in faeces . I have always remembered that little Scot as a wizard . Apparently I'm wrong .

Marco said multiple times publically that Lookman didn’t perform in training. It was clear to him for most of the season that he won’t get opportunities if he doesn’t earn them..

I’m pretty sure that if they intended to give him 3 starts over the season they would’ve just loaned him out or sold him.

I don’t see the issue here.
I'm saying not selling him after the preseason ended when they had seen him for a month and should have had an idea that he was 4th in line doesn't make sense given the offer. We didn't have Europe so it wasn't like our 4th winger was going to play a ton. Honestly they are lucky RBL rate him enough to come back with the same number this summer or they'd look a bit foolish.

The offer was there 12 months ago and it wasn't taken up.

How can that be justified if you're Brands?
I can't believe I'm agreeing with Davek but they really did need to be more honest with where he was. If by the end of preseason he was 4th choice then anything 20m or higher should have been taken. We are signing first XI players for that so players worth that can't be sat on the bench.

Just one entry in a long list of management mistakes involving the player really.

Agendas can really cloud someone’s view of just about anything :pint2:

Why should he perform in training? HEY? Its not his fault he couldnt be bothered to run, its a joke expecting effort.

At the time they must’ve believed he could break into the team? It’s not like they decide the pecking order in pre-season and can’t change it until the following summer :D

Clearly the player didn't want to be here....

Minimum effort from him & his attitude was a negative one...

Good money & no loss in my opinion....

if he was to start ahead of walcott and wasn't putting in the effort in training it undermines the managers when it comes to the demands he makes on other players. Thats why he preferred to put Richarlison there when DCL was striker and not interchange richy and bernard at left wing.

teammatess can be frustrated with your quality during matches, but will never respect a lack of work ethic

I'm sorry but I'm not having that they were desperate for him to succeed and then threw him in for about 500 minutes of the game time this season. That's clear hyperbole.

They probably thought the horrid little RATFINK would stop sulking at some point.

I thought the same to be fair. I rate his potential and think he could’ve had a much bigger impact than Theo.. but I can’t remember him smiling once this season.

Marco must’ve been sick of his attitude.

So on one hand you're saying he didn't get given a chance but on the other you're saying we should have sold him last season regardless.

I'd say giving him a season to make it here under the new manager was a chance.

Just gonna keep posting this till it registers at this point.

"We know what his quality is and you know I believe in his quality since the first day I saw him so it has to be same Lookman everyday with the same desire everyday.
“He needs to understand what the coach wants coming from him, and any winger in our model, because, after that, the quality he has.
“He is a young football player but, being honest with you, I expect Ademola to be on a different level already this season.

He trained in a team that throughout the season was crying out for a decent RW, we only had Richarlison who was performing well until Bernard got up to speed. He should’ve been pushing himself in training and in the gym to force his way into the team.
