Which of those qualities do you not see in Lookman?

For me he doesn't work as hard but he's an attacker and his work specifically on the pitch is more than accurate. He does have trouble retaining possession at times but that also tends to work itself out with experience. It's tough to say if they'd like playing with him since they hardly have.

Interesting piece of stats I noticed a few weeks ago .... Lookman has a better pass completed percentage and better score in successful controls than Bernard.. the Lookman that came back from germany I felt bad one of the best ball close controls in the side.. stood out to me as this is one of my frustrations with our side is how often we lose the ball under pressure.

This idea he had poor possession and control is factually a misconception... or we just let it go on the forum favourites again...

Also, Lelouch, you said the below about the Europa League, so why do you care if Delph is the cog that gets us it?

I'm in the skip 7th so we don't play in the Europa league unless we use the Europa league to give the fringe players like James McCarthy, some youth to see how they do like Lewis Gibson etc. Also playing nearly every Sunday is absolutely awful, I hate it.

There's a relevant article in the Independent about Marcus Edwards, a Spurs attacking midfielder who came through their academy, played for England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20, and who Pochettino once compared to a young Lionel Messi:



Marcus Edwards is 20 and has been made available for transfer by Tottenham.

Sometimes, despite all the praise, despite all the potential, despite the player attempting to change his 'natural game', it just doesn't work out. Edwards played in more England age groups than Lookman and is slightly younger. I'll be fascinated to see if they get 20 million for him.

3 years and the odd pass and he ran a bit. Whop wnop!

In 3 years he’s been given less game time than Bernard got last season. I can’t think of 5 things Bernard did.. genuinely can’t. We haven’t included the games he’s played in Germany of course as obviously that is discounted.

This is not to pick on Bernard, more just to pick out what I feel is hugely hypocritical of the fan base. What do they expect with the game time he’s been given.

...footy isn’t only about talent, it’s as much about application and attitude. Pointless keeping Lookman if the Manager isn’t intent on using him. Not many players we decide to sell come back to haunt us.

I'm sure a factor is his lack of 'acadamy' time, almost unheard of these days to go from park football to professional player.
If he thinks he can suceed on talent alone he will soon find himself out of work. (albeit with a healthy bank balance)

Yeah of course.. and as much as it seems I don’t, I like Bernard and enjoy watching him.. but I find the forum happy to have fancy footwork 40 yards from the goal and have no real contribution in and around the box. We need him to be creating in the final 3rd and not just teeing it up for Digne all match. I think he will be better this year for sure..

Agree some truly astounding touches ... just need them close to the opposition box.

This 'attitude' excuse reminds me of when Richard Richard stated that he could have become the world's greatest chess champion if he had spent every day training to become the world's greatest chess champion.

Only, Richard Richard didn't spend his days training to become the world's greatest chess champion, he spent his days.... doing something else!

If only Lookman had a better attitude, he'd then be our best winger etc etc. Instead, he's had to move to an inferior league in another country, and probably stil remains on less wages than all of his competitors for a starting place at Everton.

Seriously mate if you can't think of at least 5 things Bernard done last season, then you can't have watched us much last season. At times Bernard has been brilliant, his skill levels are amongst the best in the team, but alas his stats ar'nt. Don't know anymore what people watch in a game of football. He is ten times Lookman.

Bayern and Dortmund showed in the CL how poor the standard in the German league is at the moment and they are a long way ahead of everyone else. Reiss Nelson who could barely get a game for Arsenal is shining there l. If Kenny starts looking like Cafu then we’ll know why lots of English kids want game time out there, because the standard is a lot lower.
