Ademola Lookman

Michy Batshuayi went to Palace on loan; we could have got Tielemans in on loan to add some punch from in behind the strikers; Gabbiadini went to Napoli for £14M.

There were options.

Well we loaned Zouma so Batman wasn’t an option, gabbiadini wasn’t good enough for saints or Blackburn when he was in England and tielmans didn’t exactly set the world a light at Monaco after coming from Belgium did he?

Anyone of us could see that Lookman's head wasn't in this club. The DoF should easily have seen it and acted decisively.

12 months it took him to reach the right decision on Lookman. That is not impressive.

Unbelievable the slack this feller is cut.
I’d give Brands a bit of slack mate, he seems to have his head screwed on.
I do. It's caricature the way my view of him is leaped on and re-presented. He's had a decent start to his career with Everton, but there have been glaring errors Walsh would certainly have been pilloried with.

There needs to be balance.

That point makes no sense when he's subsequently re-signed Baines and bought a soon-to-be 30 year old Delph.

Lookman's fee would have come in handy last summer when we were desperate for a striker...as we are still.

It does make sense , perfect sense tbh. Why scout the whole world for a talented young winger to develop when we already have one here? Singing baines costs us nothing and although a new back up LB would be good , brands has a budget and wage bill to balance. He knows like we do that a striker is needed and spending 10-15m on a LB that will probably play 6 games a season barring an injury to Digne , might have restricted us for funds to attract one. Delph may be 30 but he has just won the league and cost little. If that means we can get McCarthy and Morgan out the door then we are actually better off financially.

£22.5 is very good money for him to be fair. Puts us at a current net profit for this window and frees up funds for us to improve our squad

It's a significant profit. Lookman cost about £11m and had a 4.5 (5 for accounting purposes) year contract.

With two years left on his deal, the accounts give Lookman a current value of £4.4m

We've sold him for 25m euros, or just over £22.5m on today's exchange rate

Means the accounts are going to show a profit of a touch over £18m for him - that's good going for a lad who hasn't really kicked on here (even if we all know he has talent)

Using the same methodology, we've made a profit of about £8m on Vlasic

The "net spend" is far less important to us these days than the accounting profits and losses

There's no agenda, there's n obsession. It's called taking a football club to account for being hopeless for a quarter of a century - a club like THIS one.

If there's anything weird it's people continuing handing out large amounts of slack to failing owners and CEOs and (now God help us) 'Directors of Football'.

This is where your debate is completely flawed though.

He’s been here 12 months and inherited a total mess.

Rather than get behind him, you choose to deliberately tar him with the same brush as everything that has gone on before his arrival.

You slate him for not managing to sell players. You actually need a willing buyer, it’s not all down to Brands, something a child could understand, yet you pursue stupid bloody points like that, hence people thinking you have an agenda.

I really don’t know what type of spell Bernard has put on this fanbase, he was a free signing remember and yet every CL or top 6 club rejected him, makes you wonder

They didn’t. We just made a very very good offer. Chelsea were heavily in for him at the time by all accounts.

The gripe I have with Dave's views on this subject isn't necessarily that I think his views on the players we should get in or sell are wrong, it's that he seems to think it can all be done in one transfer window, and if it isn't then it's a failure

Some players are impossible to shift because they're on fat contracts and won't accept pay cuts, this makes it hard to get players in. It's a reality that there is no magic wand to, so we need to do things incrementally. It's frustrating, but the argument that "if Brands is so good, he should be able to" is verging on pathetic. Nobody ever said he was a miracle worker, just that he seems like he knows what he is doing

Pretty sure he will developer further getting some footy under his belt in Germany like most of the young English lads, I think we'll live to regret this. But remember playing for England cos you threw a few decent cutbacks against FC Eintracht every now and then isn't the same as playing week in week out in the Premier League.

Bernard is massively overrated by fans who act like they’ve never seen a flair player before, 1 goal all season and 15 goals in 95 in the Russian league. Lookman is the far better dribbler, goalscorer, creator/playmaker and quicker as well, no comparison
And he's got a Mardy lip.
