Ademola Lookman

It's a real shame this didn't work out as there's talent there and I do genuinely think Lookman could end up coming back to England in a few years time a better player following some time at Red Bull

I just hope we put in a sell on clause just in case this happens

Pienaar was never one who delivered amazing stats for us but was a brilliant player and, more importantly a brilliant player for us.

He worked his socks off, created space for others and would often assist the assister, so to speak. Bernard reminds me of him quite a bit. Lookman may have more potential, but he's not better now, and after all the money wasted during the Moshiri era, it's clear that we need to be recouping money in order to move the squad forward. I'd rather we kept him, but Lookman is one of our few assets we could actually stand to lose, as our players seem to be split between being vital or utterly useless to us - Lookman occupies the gap inbetween, so he will have to go tbh.

The only thing that would really wind me up is if there is no sell-on clause, as he COULD go all the way to the top. If we don't put one of those in, it would be very bad business imo.
Pienaar had far more end product than Bernard ever will, more than just stats but instead his actual creative contribution to the team so I don’t think there will ever be a fair comparison between them

Lookman would have been a vital player if he was given the countless chances in the first team that Bernard was because he has a lot more natural ability and needed a consistent run of games to make mistakes as a young player

Where's the contradiction there?

The good business was done by Walsh in buying him for a bargain. Good buisness from Brands would have been assessing the lad's mood and getting shut asap last summer when the fee went up to £20+M.

On the flip side if he’d have worked hard and had a great season we’d be looking at 40m+ for him, so it’s win win. I have no doubt he’d fed silva and brands a load of poo about how he’d work hard and have a good attitude, but for whatever reason it hasn’t worked out. 22m for someone who’s (IMO) not all that impressive anyway is good business.

...footy isn’t only about talent, it’s as much about application and attitude. Pointless keeping Lookman if the Manager isn’t intent on using him. Not many players we decide to sell come back to haunt us.
A wise old @Eggs once said in words of 2 letters so we could all understand
If it is to be it is up to me
Lookman should have taken note

@davek at what point does Silva take some of the responsibility?

I'm willing to bet that if Silva told Brands he had no plans for Lookman and could use the funds elsewhere then Brands would have likely sold

What it looks like to me is that Silva wanted to see if he could make it work with Lookman and Brands allowed him to do so
He takes resonsibility too, but the buck stops with the DoF. If it doesn't, why is he here if his word is only as important as Silva's?

Interesting piece of stats I noticed a few weeks ago .... Lookman has a better pass completed percentage and better score in successful controls than Bernard.. the Lookman that came back from germany I felt bad one of the best ball close controls in the side.. stood out to me as this is one of my frustrations with our side is how often we lose the ball under pressure.

This idea he had poor possession and control is factually a misconception... or we just let it go on the forum favourites again...
That's stats for you though.
They are like heat maps that ride the bench

I agree, lets drop our best midget for a grumpy, done nothing midget with nothing to offer but childish behaviour problems.

There's no dressing up a piooir decisions. If "ifs and ands were pots and pans...."

Ok explain how it was a bad decision please Dave? We didn’t lose any money and the up side was that he could have broken through. They seem talent and wanted to see if they could develop him, didn’t work out and we lost nothing

Just like letting Dowell go out on loan was a bad decision to you?

Clubs are really beating our door down for him aren't they?

Sometimes Dave, it’s best just to accept the people being paid to do this might actually know a tiny bit more than you. I think as an individual, once you have grasped that particular concept you may find a bit of inner peace and stop making mountains out of mole hills.
Dowell in the Championship has proven himself as a quality player; but there's only so much a class player can do in such an environment with lesser players. Barkely found that too.

Why would he have done that when he was desperate to stay in Germany?
