Ademola Lookman

Bernard played with far more passion, pride, versatility, awareness than Lookman. Lookman should have been given a better run at the end of the season, but the team put a good run together and I don’t think Lookmans attitude was right. Never played with a smile on his face and not a team player in my book.

The damage was done when he went to Liebzig in the 1st place.

This argument amuses me. Love how a player needs to be playing with a smile.

Imagine we're 4-0 down and he's popping about laughing. Incredible scenes.

What I mean is he seemed ddisconnected with his team mates and to a degree the fans. You compare that to a Richarlison who looks miffed but it’s because he cares and is a winner. I’m not saying I’m right it’s just how I see it.

Bernard shows for the ball, has a fantastic touch and awareness, doesn’t mind getting stuck in, doesn’t hide, from a football perspective is a far more valuable player. Lookman needs to mature a lot to realise anything like the same potential.
Agreed mate - one of those players that never got us and didn't even appear to try to. Had his chance - tara!

Lookman constantly finds space to receive the ball when he plays. The difference is he tends to not drop as deep so he's at the mercy of the fullbacks and midfield to get it too him. That's part of the reason he struggled on the right. Seamus is comparably poor at passing forward compared to Digne.

And the Lookman doesn't put in enough work out of possession thing is at a minimum not an excuse for not playing him given we lost to United for example due to Theo not getting back.

My guess is Richarlison's attitude would not be seen as positively if he were not playing like Lookman is or if he started to struggle. I mean ask Watford how they feel about his second half of the season and you'll probably hear similar things to what we are saying about Lookman now.

Richarlison is an interesting comparison because they are similar ages and to me in need of similar things. Silva put his arm around Richarlison and encouraged him from day one. He's always taken a major interest in his success and backed that up with his actions. Lookman hasn't had that here at all and when he did get it at RBL he thrived. I'm not sure why Silva was unable to do the same thing with Lookman.

Also Silva publically calling out Lookman is rich given how he behaved after we tried to get him from Watford originally.

Throw my pennies worth in.

I'm disappointed he looks set to leave as I think he has massive potential. I'm also glad we gave it a go because it shows Silva/Brands could see that and decided he's worth a look at and we'll make just as much as we would have last season.

Now he made the odd cameo, showed flashes of his skill etc, nothing close enough to replace the established quality of Bernard...alongside his work rate and tenacity. And them two final points are Lookmans downfall imo. He never seemed to bust his balls on the pitch, well as much as Gylfi, Richarlison, Bernard, Gueye and DCL (in the end) do. They are all selfless in working to win the ball back . Now I don't believe Silva and Brands are massive fans of Walcott but he seems a decent lad who is professional and trains hard. I think Silva used Walcott as a bit of an example for Lookman. Something along the lines of, "you train as hard as him and you'll get as many chances as he does", same could be said of the others I've mentioned.

I think Silva has also, cleverly imo, used Lookman as a bit of an example to the rest of the team and the youth. No matter how good you may think you are, if you don't match it with effort you will not make the team and inevitably find your way to the exit door.

I really hope Lookman sorts his career out and makes the left wing position his own for England in a few years. However, it was time to cut our losses and reinvest in someone hungry to succeed.
