Ademola Lookman

It would be nice however if we had a manager with enough foresight to maybe sacrifice his best side on occasion to have a better side down the road. This situation is like if Martinez had used Leon Osman over Barkley. I doubt Barkley would have reacted well tbh.
If we had a manager who thought like that.... we would not have that manager for long.

The Premiership is a results based business. You get results now or lose your job now.

He can't do us any damage at Leipzig surely?

Famous last words.

It’s conceivable but unlikely we’ll be playing them any time soon. They have cemented their place in the top 4 of the Bundesliga in recent years and if they do drop down to the Europa, I doubt we’ll be in a position to meet them there
I remember this alright, it seemed strange that he was dropped after playing pretty well. Thing is though as GOAT mentioned, it became clear after Silva's seemingly very honest answer about his training levels... He has to keep the bar high in that only those training hard get to play, keeps everyone on their toes so I applaud this in Silva big time.

OR..... is it Silva conceding defeat in the battle to keep him? It’s easier to allude to his inconsistent work ethic in training and lose a “bad egg” than for Lookman to simply be sold without reason. Then bigger questions would be asked as to why a kid with such obvious talent hasn’t been utilised better.... and the finger would be pointed squarely at MS. If he goes on to become anything even close to Sancho, Hudson Odoi or Nelson out there - we’ll look very silly here.

But if we know that whatever happens we are 6-8 for a few seasons, then why not blood young players, with a hope that in 2/3 years that team will be pushing together for top 4? It's like what Arsenal tried to do with the Fabregas era but failed

Looks like he's been training with the rest of them in Switzerland today, so perhaps his injury wasn't as bad as first assumed.

And that's a bad thing if you want to move up the league and don't have a ton of money. It takes time.

Ukrainian league makes his record just as bad, how people can think averaging worse than 1 in 6 is good enough for the top 6 in a massively superior league is incredible. Those other stats are expected for a player who’s been given far more time and consistency in the first XI when Lookman’s attributes are significantly better than Bernard’s, again his dribbling, speed, goal threat, finishing and creativity (when played consistently and not 5 minute spells) are all much better

Also you say it doesn’t matter who’s better at the same age but Bernard has already established himself as an above average but far from special player, Lookman has so much more potential and the decision could look awful in a few years, especially if Bernard is still in the starting XI
you have nothing to base this on other than what you imagine it to be... he did well in Leipzig in a handful of games but was not good for us when he started games

I seriously doubt that, I think he was honest in his answer. Seems a bit far fetched to think MS is pondering how to explain the eventual loss of an unestablished player that wanted to leave in case he is criticised in years to come. And I'd rather we had a team that the manager could count on in training and match day than worry about looking silly down the road. Chelsea got rid of KdB, Salah and survived the onslaught of being called silly on the internet

But Chelsea survived that because they were able to sign top quality players like Hazard, Fabregas, Costa, Willian etc. to make up for losing top talents. And even then they've basically given the two teams better than them currently their best players. They survived due to advantages they have that we do not. Us throwing away a player of that level would be much more problematic.

Now I'm not going to sit he and pretend Lookman will reach the top of the game. He might but the greater probability is he doesn't. But of our current squad the only players with any chance are probably him and Richarlison so selling one hurts.

Wait a minute are you actually trying to argue Chelsea are better off for selling 2 eventual world class players? Wow
