Ademola Lookman

I get that but it still wouldn't make sense for someone him to be good for that time in Germany if not being in London were the problem right?

I just think the narrative is essentially Evertonians trying to find any possible explanation for letting a good player get away without it being the club's fault.

Not saying its anyones fault. But for whatever reason(s), he wasnt given that much time on the pitch here. It wasnt because he settled really well and loved it here was it?

He made his name in South London, (like Saha), he moved north, (like Saha), didnt settle, (like Saha), ended up back in London, (like Saha), and is now playing well.

But its down to minutes on the pitch.

Mate you’re talking about a fan base who will look for any reason to bash the club. You’re looking for something that isn’t there.

My main argument has been: Lookman needs to shoulder some of the responsibility for his failure to make it here. Something you can’t seem to accept as a viable argument.
It's an argument based around this idea that managers who were very bad were right to not use him and so yes I struggle with it.

I also struggle because a similar argument is made about Vlasic and recently Kean who both are getting along just fine since they moved too.

And I'm so passionate about it because as a club we need more good players so having some and getting nothing from them is a big deal.

I still don't believe that people watched Lookman and Bernard and decided based on their eyes that Bernard was better.

The numbers being what they are just made it more bewildering.

Lad, basically I’m under the distinct impression that as soon as yanks turn the TV on to watch football they just see the Matrix staring back at them.

It’s all numbers and pie charts with you lot.

I still remember Lookman putting Kyle Walker in a blender and setting up a sitter for Walcott. No numbers, just him doing things no one in our team could do at that point.

Walcott missed obviously.

Yeh and Bernard has done the same.
Has he? I mean to actually good players.

There is also a clip of Lookman skinning Azpilicueta and Kante in one dribble.

My eyes always told me Ademola was a different level to anyone who played the position instead of him save for Richarlison. It isn't all numbers. I just believe in them too.

You can tell you don't actually know many Everton fans if you think this. Our fans would blame covid on the club if it was possible. We normally criticise everything they do, if there's a consensus on here that something isn't the club's fault, it probably isn't. I think Lookman could have been handled better, but I think he could have handled it better too. I think it was an unfortunate situation where things just weren't destined to work out. He always looked decent, and to be fair he looks much improved now. He's still got a fair way to go to make me think letting him go was a terrible call, but good luck to him.

Are there any examples of us selling a player and him turning good where we collectively go "well the club screwed that up?"

I mean there aren't many examples of it happening to be fair, but for all of them it seems like the fans go to blame the player for doing this and that first and not so much blaming the club for its failings to figure it out.

I agree though, my blanket statement was probably wrong about Evertonians wanting to absolve the club.

Has Bernard beat a man and set up a chance for a teammate, yes.

Whether that’s against Man City or Norwich I’m not really bothered. If only beating top class defenders is a barometer we should start Bolasie every match.

I think that beating better players is an indication you can also beat worse ones.

This is also not a stats related take.

Funny you bring up Bolasie as post injury Bolasie is another bad player Lookman couldn't get games because of. Which was essentially down to Sam wanting senior players who knew how to get the job done. And the Bolasie stood on halfway while teams overlapped on Baines.

This is also not a stats related thing.

But Bolasie has also beaten Man City defenders and created chances so what’s the difference?
