Ademola Lookman

Normal person : Lookman has looked quite good this season, I think he's a decent player

That pen he took was good. I wish we had some more players to cost us points in the most ridiculous ways.

That point aside I think most people will be in the middle of the two poles you put up there. Sure he's a decent player, you have to be to play professional football to start with at PL level. Thereafter it's a case does the team play to your strengths to allow you to look decent on a regular basis, unless you are a worldie and you make things happen. But he should look good coming from where he has down to Fulham.

One thing he is not is a 20+ goal striker and that's the potential we were looking at when we bought him and he never progressed to that level as to me he looks for the easy way out. Did it here, did it at RB. Far too inconsistent to be wanted at a big club unless he is prepared for a complete attitude change and be willing to compete for his place by showing what he can do from the bench.

Although I'm sure if he went to PSG he can bang a few goals in.

He's quite good at understanding where space is and how to attack it.

I know it is easier to think he's all natural ability which makes an easy excuse for leaving him out but he's got a decent head on him too. I mean go watch his 30 minutes yesterday and tell me he's not got any vision or brain to what he's doing. You'd be lying.
Right, but after that it falls apart for him.

I watched every match he played for us. Frequently, he was caught out of position or running with the ball too long.

He also doesn't defend. He's allowed to do that at Fulham and isn't expected to track-back but it's another weakness to his overall game and part of the reason why he couldn't be trusted to start games for us.

Traore didn't flatter to deceive last year at all, but that looks like an outlier at this point. I've seen Fraser mentioned and he's the same. Saint-Maximin I'd put firmly in the who knows category because aside from Burnley and maybe Sheffield United no one plays worse attacking games than Newcastle.

Lookman is none of them though. He's had two extended runs of first team football in his career and he's been productive in both. His issue is simply getting on the field.
And he's not getting on the field because the negatives outweigh the positives he brings unless you're desperate for a bit of quality like Fulham. That's why a relegation favourite is the only team he's manged to really hold down a space in.

This isn't true.

Aside of course the time where CL qualifying RBL had him in every week. That ended because of a change in managers and us not letting him go, not because he suddenly became bad.

He played 574 minutes in 11 games (which is 990 minutes total).

Hardly a regular every week where he only played a full 90 twice in those 11 matches.

But please, go on.

And then they bombed him out on loan a year after.

Swings and roundabouts.
Because again we wasted a year of his career here and they switched managers to a completely different system in that time. I mean Hassenhuttl could still use him in his system and it wouldn't shock me if he was playing for Saints next season.

Also just to add to the "He doesn't defend" thing I looked up the numbers and he's putting in more tackles and interceptions per 90 than Richarlison. Does Richarlison defend?

Sure, but that's primarily because they changed manager, id be willing to bet his career may have gone in different direction had Hasnhuttl stayed in charged. This is football, sometimes you fit into a managers team/system, sometimes you don't... if you don't you get shipped out.

Nagelsmann shipped off Matheus Cunha too primarily because he didn't fit and didn't want to sit and watch. He's also doing well at a smaller club. It happens and with Nagelsmann his thinking is very specific so he doesn't try to adapt to players much. They fit or they don't.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

You're saying Everton are to blame for him getting bombed out of Leipzig?

Go on, pull the other one.
