As said above, better hitting off his right and, for me, starting on the left as he does for Ireland.

If the owners of the club do their usual wallet padlocking act regarding a replacement for Barkley/playmaker, I wouldn't mind seeing a three in behind Lukaku of

McGeady----Mirallas------Atsu

I reckon KM can give us that drive from midfield that Barkley gave us.

Against teams that we know are almost certainly going to come out at us - e.g. Europa, then I wouldn't mind that at all. Great for counterattacking. McGeady on the left, with Atsu and Kev rotating between No.10 and the right winger. Remy up top!

We have players to give us options. I can see why Martinez would insist on pointing that out. But it's a very long season and we can guarantee we'll be getting more long term injuries (this being Everton). We need to adopt a belt and braces attitude to this season and make sure we defo are covered...including at RB where we look frighteningly rubbish without Coleman's colossal presence.

I agree - ideally we could do with 2, 3 players. I think we're gonna be going with what we've got at right back for the time being though. Even after Martinez' comments today (basically saying Barkley's injury isn't gonna make us jump head first into the market unless a smart deal presents itself) I still think that an attacking mid is now a secondary target after a striker. I'm confident we'll get a forward in, as for another midfielder well we'll have to wait and see. Think both will go to the wire tbh, as it does now. Clubs simply waiting til' the end to try and get the best deal. From a business p.o.v, for the sake of one game, it makes perfect sense, even if us fans don't like it!

I cant imagine him not to get another loan deal done.

It cant be stressed enough though, despite all the belief to the contrary, that we are coming out of years of having a paper thin squad and still aren't that strengthened from last season.

Personally I'm staggered at the lack of business done. The club have played it clever by including extensions to existing players in the general talk of building the squad this summer. In reality we've hardly dome more than consolidate.

They really do take the piss.

We have strengthened now though, just not enough. I'd rather have two players of the quality of Lukaku and Atsu than 5 players as good as Peter Crouch.

But, we deffo need another forward, and ideally an attacking mid. A right-back and we'd be in dreamland.

I really want him to do well, mainly because I really like how aides mgeades (dont know how to spell) falls off the tongue. I really want Bobby to start calling him that. Imagine how that would sound whipping off his slippery Catalan tongue.

Dave, I might be alone here but I hardly think it is worth putting a padlock on an empty wallet.

Wheres Pienaar playing then?

I see Pienaar as a player we have in hand to come on and help us maintain control of the ball when we are in a winning position. The top clubs have this type of player and it's no reflection on his talents or status if we decide to use him this way.

I sort of agree, but I think that his utility goes beyond this. Pienaar is one of the few players who can provide that spark of inspiration to open up the defense. If Stoke have 10 players in the box, McGeady and Mirallas aren't going to be able to just dribble through all of them and score.
