Aiden McGeady

If I were to pick my ideal starting 11 with all our players available, McGeady would be in it. NEA.
Mine too.

Rate Piennar is the better player, especially due to his link up with Baines, but don't think he can handle the really fast paced and physical games anymore on a regular basis. Hope he stays fit as he is a valuable player, especially against teams who are sitting deep.

Mcgeady is the most over thought of everton player in the past 10 years IMO, I cant remember an assist yet? 1 goal in 35+ appearences and as many have said he on the pitch looks like a FIFA 15 player when your left toggle stick is goosed and just uses a random skill that gets him nowhere

Best feet I've ever seen. I think he'd be a better #10 than a winger tbh, less pressure on him to make mistakes and less pressure = less mistakes. Can pick a through ball better than Naismith/Eto'o/Barkley who play there as well.

Nah, the only way your post can be taken is that Martinez sees him in training, hasn't played him much so he mustn't be good enough. You had to have meant that because you followed it up with:

"we need a new, young, starting XI-standard winger ASAP."

Doesn't sound like someone who's not pre-judged him and found him wanting.
LOL. Good try buddy.

The full quote mentioned McGeady, Mirallas and Pienaar's ages and went on to state that we need a new, young, starting XI-standard winger. And I made that comment BEFORE the post about Atsu.

Our need for a new young winger remains true regardless of Atsu's success or failure, because he's only on loan, we need a squad rather than just a first XI and as you so rightly pointed out I don't rate McGeady.

You're seeing what you want to see. Completely unheard of for you... hey, what do you think of Naismith? :bye:

just completely off the top of my head, an assist for Naismith against chelsea... he assisted twice in a game since then, i'm quite certain.

Superb through ball for Mirallas away against Fulham last season as well.

No doubt he needs more of both goals and assists but he he certainly can do it, he just needs consistency. Mirallas struggled for the same thing when he first arrived as well.

My problem with McGeady is that regardless of his occasional flashy skills, he's incredibly inconsistent. He's not particularly adept in his goals tally to put it mildly. I'll give him that he does have an outstanding game once in a while, but when you'd be thinking that he just might start a good run of games, he'll have another 3-4 bad ones. Staff and players alike have used fancy words to describe his "enormous qualities", yet we have barely seen any of those. He's a terrible substitute and is incapable of impacting a game instantly. He's heavily dependent on his confidence, which is very fragile as far as I can tell, if his first touches don't turn out well, he'll start questioning himself and make the wrong decisions, despite him possessing excellent technical abilities.

Sometimes I wonder he should be sent back to Siberia.

His wide service is what I don't get. As a career winger, how has he not learned to cross a ball properly? He can't hit anything but looping crosses that go to the opposite side of the 18 or low ones that don't get past the first man. Very very rare that he actually drives one across into a danger area.

Leave him alone and get back to defending Howard you monster.

McGeady isn't a first choice starter so he the abuse he receives is unfair; Osman has been inconsistent all his career but has started more games than almost any other player the last decade; Barkley, for all his alleged Astronomical ability isn't pulling up any trees and Pienaar looks finished. If Aiden had a run of games and didn't produce then criticism would be justified, but as it is, he's coming off the bench and injecting urgency into lacklustre performances; it's not his fault the side is going through a bad spell so could Evertonians please show more respect to Everton players

Yeah, that ball is exactly what's been missing this season. He'd just come on as a sub, right?

My main gripe with Geads is that he's never really learned how to be a team player when he has the ball, almost like he has some massive insecurity complex that he can defeat with step-overs and shimmies.

Yes, it was an almost immediate link up with Mirallas who was had come on a few minutes before - real beauty of defence splitting pass.

Tbh that character trait is very common in wingers, the ones that don't have it (or develop past it) are very expensive. I'd love us to sign Deulofeu but one of the main parts of his game is running fast to the byline doing stepovers before realising he is running out of pitch and trying a late cross.

When it worked it was excellent but I imagine highly frustrating for his teamates.
