Al Gore, what a loser.

Agreed. Obama looks the best candidate in the CNN thing. I like the way he said he would talk with Cuba.

awaits visits from Dylan, Mike, Bill & co next year*

Chico poised to enter lucrative Cuban cigar export market methinks, hears hands being rubbed together, at least I think its hands(y) (y)

I have to admit he'd be my choice over Hillary.

Hard to believe coming from a charter member of the VRWC but if I had to choose, I'd take Hillary over Obama since she'd actually be semi-serious about national security.

Obama is so out of his depth on that subject that I think we'd actually be in greater danger vs. Hillary running the show.

I'd vote Ron Paul given the choice. If Hillary gets in it will mean either a Bush or Clinton has been in power for the last 25 years (or something like that). For a republic that's awfully like a monarchy ;)

Can't have Clinton going for her third term.

I am not sure which Republican to back yet. Gonna let it play out a bit before picking sides.

Don't tell me you don't see any connection between religion and the Republican party? I guess if one were to classify my political position it would be a free market liberal. The republicans do ok on the free market side of things but their religious leanings do nothing on the social liberalism side of things (think abortion and gay marriages if you want examples of their religious doctrine).

The republicans do ok on the free market side of things ...

I beg to differ, Bruce. Republicans have no interest in a genuinely 'free market', it's a myth, they simply use the idea as a rhetorical device, the US economy is a mixed economy, at best (some economists point to the way the US government pours billions of tax dollars into it's defence budget as more akin to state-planning, and that's before we even get onto it's obscenely wasteful healthcare system).

Most American politicians - Republican and Democrat - owe their positions to the narrow economic interests that pay for their elections, and they then spend their time spending billions of dollars of taxpayers money subsidising their paymasters businesses.

Yes, I perhaps should have said that they do better on it than the Democrats. It's unlikely that any government would go for a completely free market approach because it wouldn't leave them with much to do.

Free market in a global or purely nationalistic sense, Bruce? Seems to be an awful lot of squawking currently going on from the right wing about illegal immigrant labour, outsourcing and protectionism....

Here's my favorite paragraph of the article:

"The debate has shifted to how to solve the climate crisis, not if there is one," said Kalee Kreider. "It does not make sense for him to engage in a dialogue with them at this time."

Heh. Typical liberal. It isn't if there's a climate crisis (i.e. we've already "proven" that), it's how to fix the problem.

To be fair bill, theres equally enough evidence to dismiss 'the crimate crisis' as there is evidence that supports it.

wonder why that dismissing evidence exists?

is it because there is a huge demand from people with assets, companies and interests within the fossil fuel world that need it to exist?

is it because there is a huge amount of effort and change necessary in ways corporations and people conduct themselves - in order for the climate crisis to be averted? so its easier to just pay some scientists to come up with plausible alternative theories , so we can keep on driving humvees and invading foreign countries.

you may as well state that evolution hasn't been proven and we should start teaching intelligent design in schools.

the climate crisis wasn't invented by scientists to piss of right wingers and petrolheads.

your typo gave me an idea.

we should call it the primate crisis (that'd work for intelligent design as well). We are all so busy protecting our coconuts to realise the [Poor language removed] trees are being burnt down.
