Alan Partridge

As I sit on the bus into work i can reflect on it.

Of course I will watch again later. And again. And again!

But it was great. The evolution of not only the Partridge character, but also Lynn and Simon are evident again, and I can’t wait to see where they go now.

Of course you’ll get haters but that’s life. People have different tastes. It did start slow. So I wonder if people made their mind up and that was that.

Most fans wanted a return to the BBC which means some thing will feel familiar. This felt like a mix of KMKY and I’m AP. With elements of his other shows since. Perfection. But in a new way. It’s a new mellow Alan with glimpses of his old self.

They could have just rehashed everything. Same catchphrases, same locations. But they’ve taken a risk and people will need to take step back and understand it.

Not only that, the new characters were great too. The co-host was great. Her facial expressions were fantastic as she’s quite horrible.

It’s a story of a man trying to take his one last chance and all his closest allies trying to help him but it’s destined to fail.

Or is it?!

I agree that the co-host was acted superbly, she’d done her homework and was perfect for that “smiling assassin” role.

Big fan of Tim Key too, and hope he plays a prominent role in the series.

For me the main problem is that I associate Partridge with the quality writing that Ianucci and Baynham were behind. Coogan is a superb comedy actor, one of the best. But I’ve never thought his writing had the same nuance and subtlety.

Episode 1 had some really funny moments, but it didn’t feel like a new age KMKYWAP to me, which is what I’d consider the benchmark to be.

I think part of the problem with the format is that the One Show is beyond parody and doesn’t serve as a great vehicle for laughs in the same way Partridge playing a stuffy/old fashioned chat show host did.

Always thought he was brilliant but it just did not work (for me) Do hope it gets better.

yeah i thought the change in his character was really good....his nervousness and wanting to do it right are in contrast to how cocky he was in the past

You're overthinking it. There's one test: did it make people laugh out loud? The answer was no. Fans (of which I'm one) were straining to laugh and hoping it got better as the show went on...it didn't. It flatlined from there.

The rest of the series needs to improve about a thousand per cent.

I liked it. I do think he might've lost a step though... perhaps because they had to tone him down a bit because we're not allowed to laugh at much anymore.

Didn't realise you'd watched it with the entire AP fanbase. Must have been busy round yours
