Alan Partridge

Bit of a mess for me. Considering it was pitched as AP being a last minute replacement for a host took ill it was weird how much input he had - bringing in his unrehearsed radio sidekick who had never been on TV before to a primetime BBC1 show? This is AP being given an unlikely call back to the big time - not slowly spiralling down the drain to regional digital radio where he might still have some sway to influence the format.

Previous Partridge stuff has worked because it's put the character in an environment and made him adapt and react, often badly, to that situation. This seemed like they just wanted to write Partridge "bits" and changed the environment to suit. There's funny material but it was lazily shoehorned in and it was very noticeable to the detriment of the show.

Him getting a little stimulated by the handwashing bit was familiar. Has that, or very similar, been on a previous Partridge show or in one of the books?

Christ mate, it's Alan Partridge, not a gritty real-to-life drama about smackheads struggling to survive in a deprived unnamed northern town. I think calling it out for not being believable is missing the mark somewhat.

I thought it was hilarious and I could tell I was missing jokes while I was laughing so it will also take multiple views. Great stuff.

It's not an issue of it being believable but a matter of where you can clearly see the contrivances made to get a joke or scene in there. It's hugely detrimental when the show is naturally being judged against past AP efforts.

Alan Partridge has been a very successful character largely in part to a team of people who haven't took the "Christ, it's only Alan Partridge" attitude to the work.

It's incredible how Coogan has kept the character going for so long.

I like the fact that he's satirising "Couch TV" which seems to be the norm nowadays.

I preferred the original AH HAH chat show though.

Only the second time I've struggled to get through anything Partridge related; the other being the film. Hope it improves.

Did like the nod to 'I'm Alan Partridge' with the, "Partridge, you walker" bit, (change the l for a n).
