Alan Partridge

Only the second time I've struggled to get through anything Partridge related; the other being the film. Hope it improves.

Did like the nod to 'I'm Alan Partridge' with the, "Partridge, you walker" bit, (change the l for a n).

Yeah it was almost too clean for want of a better word.

Few good moments, with the Fluck/Clunt bit and "Hygiene/Hi Jean" wordplay and it did get the traditional Partridge awkward factor right, but overall the whole thing was a bit flat and too many jokes didn't land.

It almost felt rapid fire; shoving one-liners and forcing situational comedy too hard instead of feeling organic.

Totally agree with the last paragraph. Its one of the reasons I think Mid Morning Matters gets nowhere near the credit it deserves. For something that is only 15 minutes its brilliantly paced.

On second watch, the attempt to get the correspondent to agree with him about something was brilliantly done.

The problem it has is it's not instant comedy genius, and that's the bar everyone has for Partridge. It suffers from being compared to I'm Alan Partridge, Knowing Me, Knowing You, The Day Today etc. which are some of the highest peaks of British comedy. Instead, it's a six/seven out of ten affair - still light years ahead of the dross like Mrs. Brown's Boys but not comedy gold.

Funny when they were talking about the seal pup, and typical Partridge he says:

I don’t know whether to eat him up or wear him, do you know what I mean? Well I suppose eskimos do both.”

Also on seals “They toss penguins around like a rag doll and batter them against the sea until they’re dead just - wait for it - for fun. Brutal.”

Just managed to catch up with the first episode. I thought the episode was brilliant. built up nicely for the remainder of the series. The awkwardness of Partridge was there and some good funny 'Partridge'isms' for want of a better word.

Very good for the first episode. Its good to see the changes in the character, i like how he is slightly wary of finding the right tone for the show and not trying to balls it up, albeit he still does. It is slightly different to earlier Partridge incarnations but then it needs to be to show the evolution of the character.

Cant wait for the next episode.
