2020/21 Alex Iwobi

Gylfi has 2 goals and 1 assist in the league if you take set plays away. Gylfi offers nothing in the build up. I really genuinely think we'd be better off having Iwobi play there even if it means he gets 5 G+As for the season because Gylfi isn't adding that much more when you factor out the penalties and corners that someone else could easily take.

And Iwobi would offer us more ball carrying than Doucoure I think. Abdoulaye's runs are great but infrequent.
But set plays are part of the game surely? So why take them away. Look I'm not even a Gylfi fan he is far too passive, slow and he is a luxury player he doesn't play make enough in open play I agree. But he has been handy this season at times yes with set plays and assists, look at the ones in the cup and he knows the ten position in this league very well. I actually think Iwobi has skill but he would have to play in a team where everything goes through him also he would have to change his physique, as I say he runs awkwardly like he is carrying too much bulk in his upper body, he doesn't find enough good crosses or passes for a player of 35million pounds. I look back at his Arsnal clips he looks physically a different player. He is another player from a big club who thinks he is better than he is in my view. What we need is better than both Gylfi and Iwobi.

Teams separate themselves in open play. City and us have a similar number of set play goals. So I think those are worth taking out because for us to get better we need to be the best we can in open play. We haven't struggled to score from free kicks and corners when James and Digne take them instead.

The crossing thing is true, he's bad at crossing, but this is sort of why I think he's out of position. If he was in an area where he didn't have to cross we'd never even complain about it. The same thing happens with Holgate some when he's at fullback, but if Holgate was at CB where he belongs no one would worry about the crosses.

What I see in Iwobi is a good ball mover. He passes forward, he runs forward and in a team with good forwards he links up with them. Will he ever be a guy who produces a lot of goals and assists directly? My guess is probably not, and that is a legitimate problem, but we have guys in the team right now like DCL and Richarlison who pick up that part and not the stuff that Iwobi does. So for me Gylfi being another one who fits that category is really poor balance.

One last thing is that I decided to check on my comment about Doucoure's forward carrying and statistically he is way below Iwobi in how often he does it per 90 and that's with Iwobi in a position that makes it harder for him to do. It sounds crazy but Iwobi might be the player we need right now.

Maybe I just can't see Carlo trying it but stranger things have happened. Regards Doucoure I think a lot of that is down to the midfield make up he has been playing as a pivot or a box to box defensive player a lot of the time. Especially with Allan out. He has shown with us at times and at Watford he is capable of playing where Gomes does and driving us forward more and getting more goals. But in reality I think we need another player who can do that as it looks like Allan and Doucoure are like a defensive block for Carlo when everyone is fit.

This is venturing toward off topic but I wouldn't be thrilled if that was what we were pushing Doucoure toward and his recent performance level is what we'd get.

And no, there is no shot Carlo has Iwobi down as anything but on the right so time to sell.

Crisis talks at Finch Farm.
Marcel wants to upcycle wobes and Bernard into a matching set of hatstands for the corporate boxes, but blue bill says he's got contacts at cash in the attic and we may be able to get £75 for the pair

We have to get better in open play, but nothing revolutionary is going to happen this season. So far, Gylfi is playing his part, and is right now more valuable than Iwobi.

Next season we will hopefully get some new quality signings, and then both Gylfi and Iwobi will fall further down the pecking order. Hopefully we get to sell both. But so far, Gylfi is a more valuable player for the team.

We are not going to play the type of football you are looking for this season.

But if you take away all the times The Iceberg has touched the ball, Iwobi is still the worst player in our history.

I actualy think he is aswell. People go oh he's not as bad as so and so. But even if you take away the money paid, some of those thrown in i thought at least had a go. Iwobi doesnt get subbed every game because he's working his balls off.
He could do worse than spend 10 mins on the phone to marcus bent. A journeyman player with limited ability. But he came off the pitch everytime having worked his socks off.
Iwobi cant say the same.

I think this is funny. Asked to play RB which he can't do, gives it a go, it doesn't work, Carlo takes him off because it isn't working, it's Iwobi's fault for not trying enough.

Some of this logic lol

Always the victim, its never his fault.
I don't think a single person in our squad doesn't try. I think the only player I remember who I'd really question that with is maybe Schneiderlin. Even Ashley Williams when he was getting abuse every week I thought it was mostly just that he got really bad, really fast. You don't get to this level by not caring.

As Coldplay once said :

When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stick a post on insta and cry like a bish
