The level I'm holding them to is would they get regular games for most of the teams we want to compete with. The answer is a major no on Holgate and probably no on Godfrey because he has no ball playing skill.Sorry he made the Brazil team because he was scoring more for Everton you say?
Don't know about you but I would class that as improvement and evidence that we have aided his development.
What level are you holding Holgate and Godfrey to before you will deem them good players? They've both barely been out the team and we are having our best season in ages.
I reckon we could be sat in 2nd place and you'd be moaning that Holgate and Godfrey aren't De Ligt. They're clearly good players, where we are in the league now isn't a coincidence and is a testament to how good they are now which is all the proof of development you should need.
There aren't many players you can pick at random from League One or the Championship that can get a team challenging for top 4 in the prem after a year or two of development. Unless you think there are players that good just sitting around those leagues that will walk in and automatically improve a prem team.
Basically Richarlison's difference is the ball went in a bit more with us. If you want to call that major development go ahead, I see the exact same player. His flaws are still the same, his strengths are still the same and his effectiveness is entirely down to how his finishing goes as we saw in the first half of this season. That was him at Watford too.
