2021/22 Alex Iwobi

While unexpected since he has been played in central midfield his performances have been very good. I'd suggest it was the confidence from scoring against Newcastle, but regardless well done that Alex. He has adapted extremely well and has led by example in that department. Very promising signs.

Anyone see the running analysis they did on match of the day, crazy closing down. Fair play.

Let's have it right though....all he's doing is the basics. And fair play, he's made himself undroppable.

But my god he's terrible on the ball

I don't think he is just doing the basics, the quote above, that clip of motd was outstanding workrate that not many players offer

He tries to make things happen on the ball

Fernandes was far worse in possession today and he is deemed "world class" which I actually disagree with I've said to united friends for a while he is so overated

Hes such an enigma high peaks and low troughs. Not sure it is the basics, he closing down he as doing was ridiculous, its the small things that save phases of play.

Hes is a good period, he can offer up work rate and closing down, he can keep ticking over, he has vision and can be incisive, he can play. He has a big physical l presence hes beginning to use, no more so for the assist yesterday.

You never know what you are going to get with him, the madness or the sublime, but hes contributing, caring and battling. That needs to acknowledged and respected.

Ive said hes one of the worst Everton players ive seen in certain games, but hes capable and talented, an absolute enigma of high, highs and low, lows.

I wouldn't say he's terrible on the ball, he's by no means the best ball player in the team, but, he brings something to the side that is lacking. He is a big powerful lad with quick feet who is always looking to drive forward. This is something only offered to our midfield by him and Doucoure, who has just not looked the same player since his injury.

Fair play to Lampard, I would never have dreamed of playing him as a number 8, but, he looks promising there. As we've said not the best ball player in the world, but, much better technically than Doucoure and every bit as strong and powerful. He's always been a grafter, but, has often looked lost on the pitch. I'm not sure if the difference is the change of position, or Lampard having confidence in him and making him feel valued, whichever it is, we really need him to keep putting this level of performance in until the end of the season and let's hope his teammates take his example like all bar one of them did yesterday.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Wasn't he played in a number 10 a few times by Ancelotti and he did absolutely nothing? Happy the guy is back on it but he's not been stuck out on the right this whole time like a lost soil wishing he could just show his stuff in the middle.

I’ve given him plenty of stick in the past because he was very poor but mostly because he was a shirker and bluffer, did a lot of running with no end product, swerved any real tackling and couldn’t get rid of the ball quick enough, didn’t want any responsibility, all while mostly playing as a winger.

Now look at him playing central midfield, he wants the ball, goes hunting for it, backing teammates up, creating chances, and looks a totally different player, today he ran intentionally into a great position when Gordon broke through and ran along the line in on goal but chose to pass the ball right across the goal instead of the more simple pass to where Iwobi had ran to and would have had a great chance to increase our lead.

Have fellow cockneys Lampard and Cole given him this new found confidence, he has taken on a new lease of life and if he keeps it up he can not only help to keep us up but we would actually get a very decent fee for him if we decided to sell where previously it looked like we couldn’t give him away, carry on Alex you are winning fans over who previously didn’t want you near the team and I was one of them.
I doubt whether Alex, Frank or Cheryl's ex are cockneys so why not say Londoners or southerners? Regardless, this 'cockney' has been saying Iwobi should be playing at 10 for a while now. He's wasted as a winger.

I will hold my hands up. Had completely written him off as one of the worst signings in our history. The last month or so, he has shown guts, determination, a willingness to take responsibility and make things happen, energy and desire.

He has looked our best source of drive and has even bounced back from the West ham mistake - even though he'd done well in that game. He has been integral to the 9 points we have won under Lampard.

So Alex Iwobi, I salute you. Take a bow son. I didn't think a player could change my opinion so much, but you have. That is the standard. That is how you become a proper Everton player. Still a long way to go though, but really good progress....
Good of you to admit your change of opinion. Hopefully, with an eagle eye on him, he'll continue to impress

Crazy pills? Damn, I think I ought to check I haven't been given the wrong prescription because I've been acting crazy for years!

I hope he does well until the end of the season.

I also hope that we get a decent fee for him in the summer.
If he plays like this until the end of the season I hope we keep him. Now that’s turning four good games under Lampard into a run of 11 in a row so I’m doubtful but if he does, he’ll have completely changed my mind.

I’d say to be successful in the premier league you need at least six good quality central midfielders and this isn’t fifa or football manager so we can’t sell them all and start again.

Delph - was very good yesterday but is always injured and a waste of wages - needs releasing and replacing
Doucoure - his main pro is his physicality and engine and Iwobi has just showed he can do that and have more skill on the ball
Allan - is getting on but I’d keep him, think he’s vital as shown from the three games he was missing
Davies - has been injured all season, doesn’t have the physicality Iwobi has shown
Dele - different position no physicality, would keep because I want to see what he can do but not for CM

If we were lucky enough to buy three CMs, which would be a big deal considering we also need much better CBs and a striker I’d be choosing Allan, Iwobi and probably Doucoure as the ones to stick around in the squad
