Those old enough to remember may recall a certain Martin Known who was utter gash, and I think it was the evening before the Zenith Data systems final when he had a fist fight with Kevin Sheedy who called him out as being dog turd. Keown was awesome the day after, throwing himself around and came off the pitch battered and bloodied and was a really good solid player after that. I'm hoping Iwobi has found his mettle and this becomes his standard game level

I was at that wembley game. Keown came walking by us, cant remember if he had been subbed coz he had a broken nose, but i do remember it being more or less the first time Evertonians took to him.

I rember being at Goodison it was a night match and Keown ,did a back heal to a player to ironic cheers from the fans.He then went to play for Arsenal and for me was the most complete centre half for Arsenal .Maybe this will be Iwobis turning point .

Just goes to show that workrate at Goodison goes a long way.

I remember last season when Carlo played him right wing back v Fulham away and he was brilliant! I convinced myself that was his position and he had finally found a spot he can perform! He was terrible after that

Then i remember him playing Wolves away with 2 number 10s (him & James) and he scored early on and thought he was excellent, he was terrible after that!

I'm made up for him as he seems a good kid, and the players and manager continually want to back him!
But i also have that thing in the back of my head..........do it for the rest of the season now!
And ill be even more made up for him!

I think Carlo gave him half a game in a central role, after Iwobi said he was better in the centre. He wasn’t great, but I thought he showed a glimpse that he was capable of carrying the ball and finding a pass, which others can’t manage. However, he was never played there again, and it was almost like he should never have asked for a chance there. Maybe Carlo missed a trick, by not playing him there, when he was not playing well as a winger. He is never going to be a great player, but well done for the last few games. He needs to produce the same work rate in every game, and he can do well for us. If we didn’t have him and Gordon we would be struggling more badly than we are

There's an awful lot of water under the bridge with this lad. So much dross he's delivered.

Essentially he's had a run of 3 pretty good games, getting better in each (although he still made an incredibly costly mistake in one of them). I've never seem him play as a number 8 in a 433 before, and I'll accept this is a much better area for him to play than as a winger or wing back.

However, for me to not want to have him punted at the end of the season he'll need to put in a lot more of these sort of performances between now and the end of the season.

However, you've got to say it as you see it and he's been pretty decent over the last week or so. Long may it continue.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Wasn't he played in a number 10 a few times by Ancelotti and he did absolutely nothing? Happy the guy is back on it but he's not been stuck out on the right this whole time like a lost soil wishing he could just show his stuff in the middle.

No you're right, but he hasn't been playing as a number 10 here. He's been playing as an 8. One thing he's always done quite well (in amongst all the utter dross) is progress the ball well and the 8 position probably allows him to do that more.

One swallow and everything though...

I’ve no issues with his workrate but plenty with his ability on the ball. Let’s face it he was bought to offer us something offensively be it goals or assists and he’s provided us with neither. However in our current predicament his workrate could offer us something in the run in. But if we get the chance to offload him in the summer we should.

I actually think he is very able, he is one of very few, if not the only player on the pitch who can see a through ball and play it.

One of the first names on the teamsheet at the moment

….he’s talented (the pass he gave to Moise Kean at Anfield was so good it’s stuck in my mind), I’ve always thought he’ll be better playing centrally but he rarely plays like the game matters.

His reaction at the end of the United game & his exchange with Mina in the tunnel was terrific & demonstrated he enjoyed that game, but every match matters to the top players and he needs to exhibit the same commitment until the end of the season.
