He's not mentally fragile, there are good people round about him now. It could be a good season for him next year.

I hope so, he needs to be far better with his passing though, the amount of times he gets in good positions and the through ball is under hit or over hit, just no need for it. His sloppiness cost is against West Ham because he lost possession easily.

That said at least his work rate is now where it needs to be and he’s applying himself. He at least stood up during the relegation battle.

At the same time we could have been ahead against West Ham if Richarlison could have finished (or maybe even got a shot off) when Iwobi played him through on the keeper. Which also speaks to the quality he supposedly lacks.

The two don’t have to be linked. Richarlison can improve his end product and so can Iwobi, both drastically.

As this is the Iwobi thread though….

Still feel he's not good enough and too mentally fragile. Hope he continues his upward trajectory though.
Understandable with 36k experts howling in derision every week.

I'm made up he had a solid end to last season.

The pile on early in his Everton career was par for the course. (sadly)

Anytime I've talked to a Arsenal fan they've always been a little perplexed by how atrocious his performances were with Everton. They definitely believe we over payed for him but they always mention he wasn't abysmal during his time there. If we didnt aleady have a slew of somehow more wretched players I'd been keen for him to depart, also he seems to suit Frank's pressing philosophy. So if he can replicate his form at the end of the season I'm okay with him staying.

…fans are critical because they care. Clearly talented but Iwobi didn’t play like the game matters very much to him so fans are bound to make their views known.

I think the turnaround in form is lots to do with Lampard and his coaches but now iwobi has reached this level he needs to maintain it. Too easy to criticise fans for players failings. Iwobi was terrific in the latter part of the season, now it’s up to him.

Like it's also up to fans to allow players to settle into a new club.

He'd known one way of playing since a kid at Arsenal, was yanked back off holiday to sign for Everton As a booby prize when we failed to land Zaha.

His social media post "just let me live" after a massive pile on over a private jet photo was spot on. These people live in a different world, they have had smoke blown up their arses since about age 16.

How many managers has he had? 4? There's a player in there, and as you say it's up to him to maintain his end of season form.

The test will be if fans are a little forgiving with an off game. Goodison is an absolute graveyard for promising players.

My point is more that Iwobi was a really good #8 for a stretch and people should stop acting like he just ran a lot. @MikelsGoat

Of course the way this works is he'll never play there again for us. So sell now.

Not sure I’d say he was ‘really good’ at any point for us. Compared to a very low bars et by other attacking midfielders he was not terrible for us for a run of games. That’s not the same as being really good.

I think Lampard has been a big factor in Iwobi's improvement, Lampard obviously rates him and trusts him to carry out his instructions. Iwobi has responded to the belief shown in him by the manager and is now, along with Richarlison and Gordon, one of our most committed players. I have really been surprised by the level of his performances in the last three months of the season. I don't think he is, ultimately, good enough for where we want to be as a football club, but, he may well be a cornerstone of what is required for us to consolidate and improve.
