2022/23 Alex Iwobi

Why wouldn't we bring up his past performances? Iwobi has been a better player this year, but some are definitely blinded by how awful he was previously with some of their praise for him.

I'd probably give him another contract but nothing close to a reported £100k per week. He rinsed the club for 3 seasons before eventually starting to come good.
Because he was being asked to play in a way that didn't suit him by dumb managers. It's actually the smarter thing to do.

Because there are any number of reasons for his past performances. Do you think City were asking about KDB's past performances from playing for Chelsea under anti-football managers? I understand Iwobi isn't KDB, but it's a bit of the same principle - the past is just the past if a guy has blossomed into who he can be.

Iwobi has shown consistency through a relegation battle last season and he has continued to be our best player game in game out this season.

I think there's enough track record, when played in his right position under a manager that has finally let him off the leash, to show where he should be played and how to get the best out of him

I don't get the angst about the hesitation about him. He literally was the one of the worst buys the club had made until about a year ago. I'm not even exaggerating, he was the worst player on the pitch imo 75% of the time. Is he integral right now? Absolutely. Does that mean he should give him anything? Absolutely not. Lampard has been the ONLY manager to get anything out of him and there's a chance he might not even be here in a month.

You mean the same Kevin De Bruyne who scored 16 goals and had 28 assists in his final season at Wolfsburg before Man City bought him?

Absolutely ridiculous comparison that.

He's had way more rubbish games than good games for us, no matter what way you try frame it and would have do a lot more to justify the money we've spent on his transfer and wages.

He's improved a crazy amount since lampard come in, however he was that bad prior to lampard it's hard to judge how good he actually is.

He's on of our better players currently but we have a terrible squad so hard to judge

It only really matters how much it would cost in fee+salary to replace him at his current performance level with an identical player. That’s his value.

If we bought a player who was on £100k a week I would expect them to be miles and miles better than Iwobi.
Let's be rational, if ANOTHER team bought a player who was on £100k a week I would expect THAT player to be miles and miles better than Iwobi. We have had, what, 5-10 players at that £100k a week level and not a single one should have been even half that.
