He’s been our most advanced midfielder this season and he has one goal and two shots on target in 13 games. That needs to improve a lot. The lack of goals in midfield is one reason we’re a bottom half team.

Assists, while he has 5 this season, his expected assists are only 2. Three of his assists, the pass to Maupay v West Ham, cross for Onana that Dwight McNeil picked up and smashed in from a ridiculous angle and his pass to Calvert Lewin v Palace had minuscule xg, hence his expected assists at 2 as a result. He even said himself for the Calvert Lewin goal he’d take the assist but he just passed it to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and he did all the work beating the defender and scoring from the angle.

He’s obviously shown massive improvement and looks far better in a central position but there will come a time when there needs to be more end product.

I personally think that upping his assists might be tough when only De Bruyne has more.

Yes I know he can do better but we're talking a guy playing as sort of a hybrid 8/10 so creatively we're alright I think. He'd also benefit from a more attacking outlook on the whole.

He doesn’t have to up his assists, he’s assisting at roughly one in three in the league which is great. He’ll have to continue that though, particularly if his low number of goals continues.

If you think he will keep assisting at that rate over time with the same low quality of chances created that have led to goals this season then fair enough - it’s phenomenally unlikely though unless, as I said, our strikers continue scoring goals from a very low quality of chances created, unlikely over time or the quality of chances created is upped.

If you think creatively the team/midfield is alright at the moment, fine. There’s a palpable lack of creativity and creating good goal scoring chances in this team - with upgrades to Gordon and Gray I’d hope to see better attacking, linking, more intelligent play in our attack.
 

Wonder what his market value would be at end of the season he maintains this form and was under contract for 5 years…..
might actually turn a profit.
I’m not convinced we’re close to hitting the clauses to turn the original £28m into the over publicised £34m (albeit a new contract might be one of them potentially)
