Respectfully when did we actually threaten from it?
The point is more that Dobbin will get to the byline and Iwobi needs to start doing that more often instead of cutting back and allowing the other side to reset. Question is- is he quick enough to even do that? If he doesn’t do it the fullback has to and that sure as hell isn’t happening. We just lack anyone to stretch the other side.

Getting to the byline doesn’t mean anything on it’s own and isn’t the only way to play football

Not being able to get there means something though. You close off the field and make it easier to cut off space. You should be able to vary up play and getting there gives you the opportunity to play a low ball in and put defenses under pressure to clear it out and potentially make a mistake. It is very very important as an option. We are easy to defend for that reason. We don’t threaten our wide. At all

One question to ask yourself- how often do we beat players to the right or left edge of the box and cut inside to draw defenders for an easy tap in? It’s not just about the byline. It’s having a capable threat that can get into the box as well as threaten a cross. We don’t threaten that whatsoever. We lack pace and we lack the option period

This is a management problem fwiw.

Sure. It’s an Iwobi problem too. He has never done it consistently if at all. If we had faster players we would be threatening it more. We are both in agreement that he is not a wide player so you can argue that is on Dyche
And Lampard and Benitez and Carlo. Look I’m not saying he’s the greatest player to live but we have always misunderstood what he does. I even think he can work as a wide player but the way you get in behind is by him passing runners and moving off of players not by trying to generate 1v1 dribbling opportunities against a fullback. The position isn’t as important as the job and we ask him to do a job he’s not good at and act shocked when he’s not good at it. Always a management problem.

I pray Everton one day has competent management again just so everyone can be fully aware of how bad it has been in recent years. It’ll be like when your contact/glasses prescription gets fine tuned (those who know will know) and suddenly everything is so much clearer.

No good managers anywhere in the world want Iwobi mate. He’s in the last year of his contract and would be available for a knockdown price and yet here we are, utter silence.

Dyche doesn't want his wingers on the byline. He wants them tucked in to prevent the other team from opening them up in transition. Whether Iwobi is capable of beating his man, getting to the byline and getting a cross in is sort of irrelevant.

Iwobi plays wing for Dyche because he works hard and defends. Same with McNeil. Neither gets to the byline, and both are much more dangerous in the middle of the pitch. They both play exactly how they're asked which is why they're always on the pitch when healthy.

I don’t buy that for a second. So you are telling me that when Dwight McNeil was with Burnley the only thing people mentioned about him was that he could cross a ball and all of a sudden he wants his wingers to tuck in? Hogwash
