Confirmed Signing Allan

Checked in to see if we had made any progress with signing big Al but, instead, found that @TheBigIguana is rapidly becoming the new @davek. Page after page of pure spam and people rowing with a brick wall. Just need him to say something about crescents and moons and the metamorphosis will be complete. All I can say is well done GOT, 'murica has its own grumpy orange peel cat now to go with their orange president.

The reason I'm not a DOF is I have no freaking clue who actually would be good, but when names come up I'm able to do some research and give an opinion on that. I liked Hojbjerg a lot so that one was unfortunate.
Mate. You’re popping my head now. Pack it in. Anyone can see our midfield, though maybe having potential, is slow, not aggressive enough and with a spineless weak mentality. Maybe Ancelotti thinks by getting a couple of players in with the attributes we Si clearly lack at the moment, it may help our existing midfield develop. And if not, he’ll chin gem off. I’m more than happy with a season of Allen plus one if it gets us into Europe

We will have as tough a time moving on Allan and Doucoure as we did Schneiderlin and Gylfi if they aren't good

Carlo goes with quality players, these tend to be experienced professionals who cost money. If you want to develop a team and bring through young players then get a young manager who has time to so. We tried that and it didn’t work. If you want an impact bring in a successful manager and provide the cash to let him do his stuff. It would be too Everton to bring in Carlo and starve him of the means to do his stuff.

This can’t be argued with really, but got to trust that our judgement here is better than it has been previously.

Our most recent signings of players over 26 include Sigurdsson, Schneiderlin, Bolasie, Walcott, Delph, Tosun and Williams.

I think it’s understandable to be a bit cautious about spending big on 2 more players in their late 20’s but I’m far more optimistic (at least about Allan) than I was when we signed any of the previously mentioned players.

No team not with in range of the title has spent what we're about to spend on a 29 year old. It's more risk than most teams take on with almost no chance at the reward. Maybe it works out but this is without a doubt one of the riskiest transfers anyone will do this year.

Nemanja Vidic
Pedro (28
David Luiz (29 - £34m) then (32 -£8m)
Aubameyang (29 - £56m)
Giroud (31 - £20).

loads do it.

Yes, but these are better players than either of the ones you mentioned.

Sigurdsson was sold off by Tottenham to Swansea for just under 7 million GBP. We turned around and paid 40-45 million. We bought Schneiderlin after he had been crowded out of United's midfield.

By contrast, Allan has been a first rate player for some time. I have more reservations about Doucoure, but there's no denying that we could make use of a terrier that harasses opponents into dubious passes. We are buying players that the big fish have pursued, not ones that were sold on because they were deemed surplus to requirements by one of the big fish.

He'll have to do both - develop a young squad to take on positions in a few years, while buying to solve immediate problems. He can handle the front 3, Holgate, Branthwaite etc, but still needs strengthening to do a combination of both

Ultimately you’re right though.

the issue for Schneiderlin wasn’t age for me.

Sigurdsson was a disaster waiting to happen, we’re trying to contend with Spurs, but they were happy to let him go.

Hopefully we’ve learned our lesson and Allan will be suited to Carlos style and he won’t need to sell him on.

I do think Allan is good, I just think we need to be careful and as you say our record isn't good for doing that.

I like Allan as a player but I don't like him enough to throw my reservations away.
